Does the Way We Dress Say Something About Us?
Clothes, beyond covering our nakedness and making us look modest, play a great role in our identity. Through clothing, one can easily tell what occupation a person is involved in. In society, clothing adds to our esteem; it beautifies and decorates us. Now, the real issue is, Does the way one dresses have something to say about that person? I will answer yes.
Someone's choice of clothing is greatly influenced by their kind of work, culture, family, faith, and, generally, their personality. Even without speaking to someone, we make assumptions based on their appearance.
Decent clothing, regardless of diversity in culture, faith, etcetera, is recognized when seen. And truly, it is appreciated because it is always beautiful and gives an impression of responsibility. Indecent clothing, however, differs in different places. What might be considered indecent in Africa might be considered decent in Asia. So, the kind of indecent dressing I will be talking about is clothing that reveals sensitive parts of the body, which I believe is generally considered indecent in most parts of the world.
Another thing that can make clothing inappropriate is the setting in which it is worn. A swimming suit or beachwear, when worn randomly on the streets, may not be considered normal, but at the beach, it is perfectly appropriate. The same applies to wearing party clothes to church or to the office. Each setting has its appropriate style of dressing, and sticking to it is a good thing.Dressing decently is not necessarily about covering every part of the body I feel it is also about knowing the appropriate clothes to wear in different settings.

Is Indecent Dressing All About Mindset?
Yes. Some people who love dressing in revealing clothes may genuinely have no ulterior motive. Perhaps the family they grew up in made them see such dressing as normal, while others may have an ulterior motive when they dress in revealing clothes. So, when it comes to mindset, I would say it also depends on the viewer. Whether or not the person has an ulterior motive, we, as viewers, don't know their reason for dressing that way. What we see is an individual dressed in what we consider to be indecent clothing.
What About Rape?
In cases of rape linked to indecent dressing, to me, indecent dressing is not enough reason to rape someone, though it may influence how a person is perceived or approached. People who dress decently are also victims of rape, including children both boys and girls. So indecent dressing should not justify rape. Rape is most often associated with the rapist's actions, choices, disregard for consent, and lack of respect for another person's boundaries, rather than what the victim is wearing.
So, my take is that modest dressing can add respect to a person and can also influence how people judge that person's appearance, decency is beautiful and not outdated. Even if someone dresses indecently, whether or not they have an ulterior motive, what speaks to the observer is what they are wearing, not necessarily their intention. This is because people generally judge based on what they see. However, how people perceive someone's dressing should never be used as an excuse to justify harmful behaviour toward that person.
