Un viaje a mi adolescencia probando nuevos snacks en 3D / A trip back to my teenage years, trying out new 3D snacks
I must confess that, three decades ago, I was a huge fan of eating large quantities of salty snacks—without a second thought about the consequences of ingredients like Yellow No. 5 or the various other additives used to create appealing colors and flavors. Those days are long gone, however; over time, I’ve become much more mindful of what I consume and have taken greater care of my digestive and overall health.
But since nothing is perfect, every now and then I’ll try a new or eye-catching product I spot at the supermarket, bringing some home to share with my children. It’s a win-win: they get a new snack, and I get to satisfy my own culinary curiosity.
This time, I came across some 3D-style snacks from the brand LEQ. What caught my eye—even more than the flavor—was the price; they cost half as much as similar snacks from Lay’s—a brand I’d tried before, though those had become one of my "out-of-reach" favorites.
They come in a cone shape, with a much more intense yellow-orange color than typical cheese-flavored snacks; their flavor is also more pronounced and lingering. One thing I really enjoyed was the crunch—it created an ASMR-like effect that you experience from inside your own mouth, which makes you want to reach for the next cone immediately.
I enjoyed this treat in secret, while my kids were still at school. With every bite, memories of my teenage years came flooding back—times when I’d buy two large bags of these snacks and head over to my aunt’s house for the weekend to watch movies with my cousin, both of us snacking from a big bowl where we’d mixed the contents of both bags together.
Those were the kinds of days people refer to when they say, "We were so happy and didn't even know it." Over time, as life brought on new responsibilities, my cousin and I drifted apart—each of us starting our own families, with geographical distance making the separation even more pronounced. Yet, as I sat there eating these snacks, I traveled back in time, feeling once again like the "adult" cousin sharing a moment with her teenage cousin.
Perhaps this isn't the best way to soothe a sense of longing, but at the very least, I’ve found an affordable, tasty snack—one that transports me back to a period I once remembered with a touch of sadness, allowing me to shift that perspective toward the joyful moments that also took place.
