I think that ever since I was working Monday through Friday, I haven’t been this happy for the regular workweek to end, and even though there’s still all the Mother’s Day hustle and bustle to deal with—which is next Sunday here in Argentina—just having the pressure of certain responsibilities lifted is enough for me.

There are only two months left until the end of the school year, and in my case—since both of my children are finishing up their current school stages (the oldest in high school and the youngest in elementary school)—meetings have begun to organize their graduation ceremonies, the search for a spot for my youngest son in high school, and some interactive classes at school that I’m hoping to attend, since there won’t be any other opportunities later on, and an endless list of to-dos that add to the daily routine.

Since the weather has been so unpredictable—due to the “El Niño” atmospheric phenomenon—doing laundry has been quite an ordeal, not so much because of the washing itself but because of the drying, since the sun has only made brief appearances, so this week I’ve had to juggle the clothesline, moving it from the balcony to the living room and back again, looking for a bit of wind to help dry the laundry and avoiding the sudden downpours that come in the form of quite extreme bursts of rain.

My youngest son asks me before he leaves whether he should wear one or two layers (a sweater and a jacket, or just a jacket), since the temperature keeps fluctuating—it feels like we’re in fall rather than well into spring. Just this week, he had an invitation to a formal gathering, and we had to improvise with some of his brother’s clothes, which, fortunately, fit him as if they’d been tailor-made.

We’ve also been playing the game wheel every night, so even though I come home tired from work, I try to stay positive and play despite my exhaustion. In the end, those few minutes make a huge difference in my children’s moods.

And even though it’s not a permanent adoption, Raven has already moved into the house—especially during extreme rainstorms—since I don’t have the heart to leave him out in the pouring rain. It actually reminded me of when I tried to do the same thing with Bebé, the first stray cat I fed—I wanted to do the same with him and ended up all scratched up, but Raven was the complete opposite, almost grateful that I let him take shelter indoors, even though my cat Aramis wasn’t too convinced by this decision.
