One of the unique things about my 3-year-old kitten is that, contrary to everything we know about cats, she isn’t a cat that sleeps much. I always say—half-jokingly and half-complaining—that she must be a bipolar cat, since she spends more time playing, running, and getting into mischief than she does sleeping, unlike most cats I’ve known.
However, my kids tell me that she only acts that way when I’m home, so it’s up to me to try to make sense of her strange meows, her dashes after nothing, and her bad habit of spitting out water after quenching her thirst.
Only when I let her into the bedroom and let her fall asleep on my bed does she stay still in my presence, and perhaps everything she does is a protest against not having free access to that part of the house—but honestly, I don’t like letting her in there, because if I’m not careful, she’ll knock something over just to satisfy her curiosity.
The photos accompanying this post show how calm she gets when she’s in my bed—so much so that she didn’t even realize I was there, capturing her mid-afternoon nap with my phone.
But don’t be fooled by those sweet, pink little paws—when she gets upset, she attacks without hesitation, digging her claws into anyone who bothers her while she’s going about her cleaning, sleeping, or eating routines. That’s why managing to take these photos just right has been a huge accomplishment for me, because when she woke up, she felt “offended” and went off to sleep somewhere else.
