I remember the last time I saw Victoria she was pregnant. She was 7 months pregnant and she looked beautiful. When I asked her what the baby's sex was, she just told me as she walked away: Iván! So it would be a boy.
I hadn't seen her since the day of her graduation, and at that very moment I thought: she has the same look of happiness from that day with her gown and cap. She loved children, and in fact she wanted to take her nephews to the ceremony, but they weren't allowed.
Iván would be the first, of at least three children she would have liked to have. Knowing her, she wasn't going to stop until she had a girl, who would be the first in the family.
Although we lived in the same city, and the common spaces were too many, I didn't know anything else about Victoria, until that fateful day when I received a message on a social network in which I was tagged.
Victoria was between life and death...
She had been hospitalized for a week, with a guarded prognosis. She had overcome the first operation, but not the state of coma in which she fell afterwards.
Her acquaintances were asking for help to find a medicine that helped with coagulation, very difficult to find, in addition to a high cost. So either of the two things helped: medicine or money.
I was perplexed for a couple of hours. Victoria, the happy girl (she was 26 but I always called her that) that I had seen almost 2 months ago, had her smile erased, and now she was a body full of needles and a ventilator.
They didn't let her see, but that's how I imagined her, like in the movies. I didn't know much about the advances or what had happened to her. Until I remembered Iván. My God! And the baby? Will he be okay?

My research began to find details, and I contacted the person who had tagged me. What they told me turned out to be worse than what I already knew.
Iván was the guilty party of his mother's condition.
Victoria wasn't in labor. There were no contractions or bleeding. She went to her medical consultation and everything indicated that the following week they could do the cesarean to avoid waiting for labor pains and avoid complications. She agreed.
She hurried to finish ordering the baby's room and packing the bag with what she would take to the hospital. A familiar ritual that is exciting, because it is the culmination of a stage and the moment when you will finally meet that being that you felt moving when you talked to him.
Only destiny had other plans.
A couple of days later, Victoria wakes up with a very high fever. She didn't hurt anything, but the temperature didn't give in and they took her to the doctor immediately.
When she arrived at the emergency room, she fainted and was taken to observation. Time was against her, because there was no forecast or background that explained her condition.
They did an emergency cesarean, but Ivan had died in the womb. What followed was a terrible chain of consequences. A hemorrhage that was difficult to control, followed by an operation to try to stabilize the functioning of her kidneys, which were taking her to collapse.
The doctors acted blindly, in a hospital plagued by shortages. Led more by the commitment of their Hippocratic oath, and the prayers of those who waited outside and all of us who were involved in this story.
A week after the induced coma, Victoria manages to open her eyes and speak. She faked a smile so they would believe she was okay. Her only words: Where is Ivan? But no one had the courage to answer her ...
After 20 minutes, in which only a few saw her, she fainted again ... and this time forever. The efforts were in vain and Victoria's body, worn out by knives and needles, could not take it anymore.
Ivan came to take her with him ...
After the funeral, we knew what caused the beginning of this nightmare. The counting of weeks was always wrong, Ivan was already on time for Victoria's last consultation, who after that had no time to say anything. A desperate kick from Ivan who asked for help to be born, detached the liver from his mother. From there the fever.

Trying to save him after the time it took him to be born, they gave priority to Ivan, but in the end destiny decided that it was better for them to go both ... Surely the baby was waiting for his mother in the beyond ...
