In between waiting I am writing this note..
My role feels rather unassuming and confusing at times.
But since I’ve been brought into this project after a week, “ this is it”, felt like I fit just right in.
This job is quite interesting as it deals with geomapping, socio-economic analysis and studies but this is only a small picture of what we do around. I’ve been exposed to this job quite a long time ago but I wasn’t done with myself yet nor even understand the whole picture of this line of job. I left years ago without knowing what entails until I found myself circling back. I wasn’t sure if that is a great decision but after a week around here, I began to understand what my maternal family built for the last 2 decades.
Our family business empowered people who otherwise would have no chance to be self-sufficient. It created jobs and empowered the local communities. In its core it’s all about building the nation from the ground up which honestly felt like a pipeline dream.
I wasn’t sold to this pipeline dream until I really saw people who worked tirelessly without any government funding to just start helping out their local communities.
Obviously, once the project kicks off, everyone wants a piece of recognition. But if we see it from a positive perspective, we can be proud of our own. I saw passion and happiness from these people that are so unmatched despite they might not get the recognition they deserve. Obviously, they do get paid but life is more than just getting money.
In hindsight, leaving the family business for so long is a good thing. I distanced myself from all affairs with my other siblings and kept growing on my own. I became comfortable with the uncomfortable. This is something only you could get once you experienced things. Think about not being able to eat for days, sleeping anywhere I could, living minimally, not being able to afford things. And obviously backpacking around in places where it’s that inconvenient.
Now, I understand why some people couldn’t stand the job. Some of them whom I asked typically don't feel comfortable with quite a few things. The pay is quite reasonable, you get free flights, accommodation, food. And the work load is quite okay.
It really depends on what you do but mostly, a desk job, a site job and that’s about it. Once you learn to have good time management, it’s not really that bad.
This is basically my in-training time before I am stepping into a serious role in my family's business. So far, I have not complained about the job or the work load. To me, it’s the same everywhere. There’s always the negatives and the positive but what matters is how my heart is in the right place right now.
I know what I am comfortable and uncomfortable with. The fact that I am able to get exposed to different life, people, and their circumstances, truly has opened my eyes up more that the world is vast and has so many possibilities.
These days to get a job is a struggle on its own. There’s even a joke to be grateful for our current job and not to complain much about our salary. The economy is tough and having a job is better than not.
I could have gone through the hardest way possible but you could say, I tapped out. Now, I am willing to learn the ropes & work. Besides, it’s good to know that I’ve contributed to the betterment of people around me.
When I eventually learned the heartbeat of the business, I felt the rhythm again. This is just like what I’ve been doing all these years only through different mediums and industries. I love empowering people, helping them and that is the core of the heartbeat of it. Whether people will like it or not, that’s not up to me to judge. We can’t always please people and that’s something I am becoming more and more comfortable with.
Maybe now, I am not that person who wander to goof off anymore but carrying more important mission that is actually more impactful. Who knows where life lead me after this but I am very content with the way things are right now and even I can't thank God enough for all the doors that have been opened to me.
By the way, this was one of the most meaningful projects I’ve worked on this year regarding to Hive awareness in Indonesian (Sept–Feb 2024–2025). You can learn how I managed it here :
