While wandering through Kota Gede with my mom, we were told by our grab driver, a local about the many delicious snacks that the area has to offer. Additionally, I had previously seen some of these snacks featured on a local travel show and was eager to try them. So, we made it a point to seek out and try as many of these local treats as we could during our visit.
Located within Pasar Kota Gede, the snack area is a must-visit destination for foodies. This place offers a variety of traditional Indonesian snacks, including those wrapped in banana leaves that are unique to Kota Gede.Pasar Kota Gede itself is also another point of interest in the area. Despite the fact that it might look like any other market, it is a great place to discover the local culinary scene.
This area is also not too difficult to find as you can walk straight from the royal tombs and explore the lively scene of it.Not only will you find a variety of tasty snacks, but you can also try drink called Es Dawet which is made with coconut milk, chewy rice flour, and liquid palm sugar. While drinking that, you can enjoy the bustling and local atmosphere of this area before walking to the alleyways of Kota Gede.
During our visit, my mom and I sampled a variety of snacks including Risol Mayo, tahu bakso, pineapple bread, Sagon, lumpia, and mochi. These snacks are made from ingredients such as tofu, flour, and rice flour, and offer a mix of sweet and savory flavors. Among them, my personal favorite was the Risol Mayo, a snack filled with mayonnaise and sausage. While these fillings may not be traditional, they are modern twists on classic snacks. All of the snacks we tried were reasonably priced, ranging from $0.2 to $0.5. I have to say that there was not a single snack that I didn鈥檛 like. I also wanted to get more but because we were on a budget, we couldn鈥檛 sample all of them. If you ever visit Indonesia, you should not miss this area too as I would still consider it as a hidden gem for foodies!
Anyhow, I was about to post it to complete my series but because of the holiday season, it made it difficult for me to prepare the pictures in time. But overall, I highly recommend adding this snack area to your itinerary when visiting Kota Gede. It is definitely not a place to be missed during your trip.
