Heya Hiva シ

Ready or not, here I come..

-> from seeing things from a different angle!

Adventure afoot!alt

With overcast South Peninsula, Cape Town experiencing another round of relentlessly strong wind.. I opted to walk the roads nearest the wetlands due to safety concerns. With no clear destination in mind, I simply followed the trail of litter.

Towards the end of the expedition, I found myself at the entrance to the far side of the main bush trail (the opposite end from where I usually begin). Certainly more remote and potentially dangerous as a result thereof.. I plan to start getting a bit more acquainted with the area over time.

At first glance, this scene may have looked rather neat & tidy. Upon closer examination, however, one could find throat lozenge wrappers & other small pieces of litter. It was hard to photograph the collected trash as I had to hold onto it tightly - so as to not lose it in the strong wind.

This thin plastic bag was quite caught up on this little tree. It required a carefully executed tug to free it. Bagging such a light item (without losing the other bits) was a rather tricky endeavour.

The small plastic yogurt tub was found near a street lamp. Safely bagged it with the rest.

From yogurt to sherry.. that's quite a transition! The empty glass bottle was useful once bagged though, as it offered such much useful weight to the carrier.

Had to be super fast to bag this empty cigarette pack and perimeter tape, before it could blow away.

With the local municipality clearing overgrown grass recently, I was able to collect some hard plastic fragments.. which I think related to a broken iron, I once posted about finding around the same area.

I just kept walking, with the road looking pretty clean until.. I found a metal screw! May have saved someone's car tyre. That's awesome.

By this point in time, I had walked really far - in the same direction as the area of dense bush avoided (pretty much parallel to it). Although the words on this paper were indeed beautiful, it obviously shouldn't exist as litter. They're probably more in line with picking it up.

Around this time, I started my way towards the mountain (ever vigilant). I wanted to peer down the path from the right hand side. It certainly looked very dangerous indeed! Being in the region of a previous horrific crime brought an uneasy feeling for sure! During all of this, I was still able to bag this piece of discarded fabric.

Checking over my shoulders frequently, I recovered an old sock as well.

The last piece for the day was an empty plastic bottle of conditioner. Definitely a worthwhile find!

After making my way back to more familiar territory, I was able to safely discard the rubbish in one of the public municipal bins. I didn't want to open the lid due to the possibility of trash blowing out. Before leaving I tried to compress what was in there as well. It was definitely a very successful day. The new area warrants further careful investigation.

Till next time,
