As I do not have the space to grow the red or white onions, I grow spring onions.

They are so easy to grow and have no pests and can be grown in the open ground as well as in containers.
Plant them in a nice fertile soil with good drainage and make sure that they get plenty of sunshine.

Many people do not enjoy the strong flavour of onions and in this case, the spring onion is the ideal one to grow as the favour is mild.

My spring onions grow throughout the year as I mainly use the green tops which then regrow after being cut and so there is always a good supply to harvest.

If you let the onions go to seed, they will first produce lovely white flowers and these can also be eaten and are lovely sprinkled into salads.

Spring onions are delicious when chopped up and put into soups, scrambled eggs and other egg dishes.
Children find the spring onion easier to accept as opposed to the normal onion and it is a good way to get them to like the onion taste.

There is nothing nicer than being able to harvest your own fresh spring onions from your garden.
