A Delicious Dish: Giant Horse Mackerel, Cassava, and Green Plantains
Hi, friends! I hope you’re all doing great. Recently, I had the chance to cook horse mackerel with cassava and green plantains. This horse mackerel is very tasty, and in this case, it’s the giant horse mackerel species. This fish lives in tropical waters and can grow up to 170 cm long and weigh about 80 kilos.
At a market in eastern Venezuela, I found this very fresh fish that they were just filleting. I bought 2 kilos of horse mackerel for about $4.80.
And here we have cassava and green plantains, freshly harvested from the ground.
1
We start by peeling the cassava using a technique that simply involves making a slit in the skin of the cassava and then opening it up with a knife.
2
We must wash the cassava very thoroughly.
3
Next, cut the yuca exactly in half to make it easier to cook.
4
Next, add the cassava to the pot. Peel or wash the plantains thoroughly before adding them as well. At first, I peeled the plantains, but then I remembered that my dad prefers to leave the skin on to preserve the plantains’ nutrients.
5
Next, we washed the horse mackerel fillets very well; I also added salt, garlic, and ground oregano. Once the vegetables were done, I grilled the fish over charcoal.
Here’s the result of our dish featuring horse mackerel, cassava, and plantains. It’s a very nutritious dish, and grilling the fish gives it a delicious smoky flavor.
I hope you really enjoy this dish. Thank you so much for your support and for stopping by to read this. I hope you’ll also be able to create many delicious dishes this week and, above all, continue to help our beloved Hive community grow with lots of love.
