Greetings all
Just a small update today as my day has completely run away from me and I am now tired. I hope you enjoy it!
Siar loathed to have to wake the pair the next morning. She had been woken by the urgent summoning of Saasha in her head. Saasha and Silens were the only two Truth Seekers who could get through to Siar and she absolutely hated it. She got herself and her toddler daughter dressed and came down the stairs as quietly as possible.
Saasha’s message had been clear. She and Jethron needed to see Saita as soon as possible. As the young Saith got to the bottom of the stairs, she saw Bolx already sitting at the kitchen table drinking what she could only assume was black coffee by the smell of it.
“You two are already up?”
Bolx looked up at her and shrugged, “What did you expect? Us to be like Mom and Dad?”
Siar looked to the bedroom and saw the door open, and the bed made.
“What happened?”
“Exactly what she planned, what I didn’t.” Bolx fixed her with an annoyed look. “A heads up would have been nice. I could have kept my emotional baggage under control.”
“Where is Saita?”
“Went for a run. Said she needed to clear her head. I don’t think she slept last night.”
“Saasha has asked…”
“I got the message. I told her I would grab Saita as soon as she returned home.”
Siar knew she could do nothing but wait. She was well aware of Saita’s morning runs and that no route was ever the same. Tracking her would take far more time than she was willing to wait.”
“Are the parents up?”
“Mother is, she’s stretching in the garden with Aidan. Gatex left several hours ago.”
“Is there anything left over from last night? Could you feed Seana?”
“There is, and I will. Put her in the living room.”
“I’m going to ask Aidan if he’d take her to Aurus if we have to go to the castle.” Siar turned to put her daughter on the ground, “Stay and your uncle will give you something to eat. Then you will go to grandma, okay?”
“Kay!” squealed the child.
Siar patted the top of her daughter’s head and made her way to the garden. She heard the voices before she saw the human and her mother outside. Silens seemed to be done with her stretches and was talking to Aidan, except she wasn’t using the language she used with his mother. No, this was the language of her people, a language that only a handful of people knew. If that wasn’t surprising enough, the human boy was responding almost as fluently as what Silens was speaking.
“Well, this is a surprise.” Said Siar in the same language, “Didn’t think you would teach someone your tongue that didn’t have your blood.”
Silens turned her head ever so slightly and said, “He doesn’t have to carry my blood to be considered family. From what I have heard, the boy is to be family.”
“There is no way you have taught him this much in one night.”
“You think I was privy to Bolx and Saita’s growing relationship only last night? No, no, dear second daughter, I have known for some time and have been teaching the boy since we returned to Saith.”
“Don’t call me that. It makes me feel inferior to Saasha.”
“You shouldn’t, it’s the order of your birth, no more.” Silens got to her feet and dusted herself off. “Though it doesn’t translate well in Saith.”
The old woman looked to the human and said, “I’ll get round to teaching your mother soon.”
Aidan nodded his head and got to his feet.
“Saasha has asked us to report to the castle.” Continued Siar as she looked down at the human, “Do you know where Aurus and Tomax live?”
“Yes.”
“Could you take Seana to them?”
“Sure.” He grinned. “I’d be happy to!”
“Go get some breakfast.” Said Silens as she pushed the human to the house.
As the human raced forward, the women slowly made their way back, Silens humming an unknown song and her daughter lost in thought. Upon entering the house, they noticed that Saita was back and looked exhausted. Before either could say anything, the human said, “I got the message. I was stopped by a Royal Guard on my route and told. Must be important if Saasha sent a Guard to waylay me. Let me have a quick shower, and I’ll be ready to go.”
She went to her room and shut the door.
“Not going to join her?” Silens asked Bolx.
“Mother…” he groaned as he continued to feed his niece while sitting on the lounge floor.
Siar chuckled and started gathering everything she wanted Aidan to take with him to Aurus and Tomax. The boy had seated himself in the kitchen and was eating something that had been given to him. He seemed to be wolfing it down.
“Breathe, boy. What’s the rush?”
“Mom said that I also need to go to the castle with her, but I want to drop off Seana first.”
Siar hadn’t been aware that Aidan was required to. That message must have been given to Saita through the Guard that had stopped her.
“Thank you.” Was all she said as the boy put his plate in the sink and took the bag from her.
“Come on, Seana. I’ll give you a piggyback ride.”
Siar had no idea what that meant, but as soon as Aidan squatted before her daughter, the girl wrapped her arms around his neck, and he stood up.
“I’ll be right back.” He said as he dashed out of the room with a giggling toddler on his back.
There was a moment of silence before Bolx said, “He’s a wonderful child despite what he’s been through.”
They waited a few more minutes before Saita stepped from her room, still trying to dry her hair before hastily running her fingers through the long growth and tying it up.
“Right, let’s see what this is about. Aidan will meet us at the castle when he’s done dropping off Seana.”
