Our first camp together (Eng/Esp)

Hello, Hive friends! Have you ever found yourself in a situation where reality far exceeded your expectations? That’s exactly what happened to me when I went to my first Christian camp with my husband. At the time, we were still dating; we hadn’t got married yet. It was a wonderful experience that I’d like to share with you.

¡Hola amigos de Hive! ¿Alguna vez les ha pasado que la realidad ha superado por mucho sus expectativas? Eso me pasó cuando fui a mi primer campamento cristiano con mi esposo. En ese momento éramos novios aún, todavía no estábamos casados. Fue una experiencia muy hermosa que quiero recordar junto a ustedes.

Last year, my husband invited me to go to this camp for young adults with him. I’d been to many camps in my life, but this one promised to be completely different. This time, I wouldn’t just be another spectator, there merely to enjoy the camp. I would be part of the service team. This was a great honour for me, but also a huge responsibility. I remember feeling very afraid of not doing a good job.

El año pasado, mi esposo me invitó a ir a este campamento de juveniles y jóvenes junto a él. Yo había ido a muchísimos campamentos en mi vida, pero este prometía ser totalmente distinto. Porque ya no iría como una espectadora más, solamente para disfrutar el campamento. Sino que formaría parte del equipo de servicio. Esto para mí representaba un gran honor pero a la vez una enorme responsabilidad. Recuerdo que sentí mucho temor al respecto, de no poder hacerlo bien.

My husband and I were the team captains for a group of teenagers. We were the blue team. There were four other teams, each with a different colour. We organised lots of competitions and games so that the teenagers could have fun whilst we shared spiritual teachings with them. These ranged from sports competitions to putting together the ‘singing menu’ for the canteen meal. There were so many lovely and moving moments that I am absolutely delighted to look back on them.

Mi esposo y yo fuimos los capitanes de equipo de un grupo de adolescentes. Éramos el equipo azul. Habían otros 4 equipos de diferentes colores. Hicimos muchas competencias y juegos, para que los adolescentes se divirtieran a la vez que les dábamos enseñanzas espirituales. Desde competencias deportivas hasta hacer el "menú cantado" de la comida del comedor. Fueron tantos momentos lindos y emocionantes que me alegro demasiado al recordarlos.

In addition, several pastors delivered wonderful messages on the themes: ‘Jesus in Me’ and ‘The Next Generation’. The key takeaway for me from those messages is that we need to reflect Jesus, to be transformed into His image and to show His love to our generation. We made a commitment to be ‘the next generation’ in bringing the message of Jesus to humanity.

Además, varios pastores dieron preciosos mensajes sobre los temas: "Jesús en mí" y "Próxima generación". La esencia que me llevé de esos mensajes es que necesitamos reflejar a Jesús, para ser transformador a su imagen y mostrar su amor a nuestra generación. Hicimos un compromiso de ser "la próxima generación" en llevar el mensaje de Jesús a la humanidad.

I am so grateful to God to have had such a wonderful experience. We went again this year and had a brilliant time too. I believe the lesson to be learnt from this story is that we must face our fears, and if what we are about to do is for the greater good, we must not let fear hold us back or paralyse us. Because, as the old saying goes: ‘He who does not live to serve is not fit to live’. It is a tremendous privilege to be able to serve others. I hope you enjoyed the post; see you next time.

Le agradezco mucho a Dios haber podido tener tan hermosa experiencia. Este año también fuimos y la pasamos muy bien en el campamento. La enseñanza de esta anécdota considero que es que debemos enfrentar nuestros miedos, y si lo que vamos a hacer es algo bueno, no debemos dejar que el temor nos frene y nos paralice. Porque como dice el buen refrán: "el que no vive para servir, no sirve para vivir". Es un enorme privilegio poder servir a los demás. Espero que les haya gustado el post; hasta la próxima.
