Hello, dear Hive family. It’s always a pleasure to pop in here to say hello. I hope you are all well and that God blesses you abundantly. On this occasion, I’d like to tell you about the evangelism workshop to which my husband and I were invited. It was led by some brothers and sisters from the organisation ShareWord Global. One of them was Canadian and the other of Arab origin. They were also assisted by a Cuban translator, as they did not speak Spanish.
The workshop comprised four theoretical sessions and one practical session, which involved going out into the community to put what we had learnt into practice. The sessions were very engaging. The model of evangelism they showed us is called ‘relational’, as it is based on the idea that when evangelising, we should try to build a relationship with the people we approach, leading conversations that allow us, through good questions, to establish a safe connection with the other person, so that they feel in a comfortable environment where they do not feel judged or questioned.
A key point we covered in the workshop was the importance of asking the other person’s consent before starting to talk to them about our faith. This is essential, yet we often skip this step, which means our message is frequently rejected, as some people do not feel comfortable being spoken to about this subject. We were taught that the only way to avoid being rejected is to ask for permission before sharing our message.
Another crucial topic we addressed was that the most difficult part of evangelising is usually breaking the ice – deciding to approach and speak to someone, often a stranger, which means we do not know how they will react.
The truth is that, as Christians, each of us has a mission to proclaim the good news—the Gospel of Jesus—to those who do not yet know Him and are missing out on the blessing of being called children of God. We need to proclaim to the world, as the Bible says, that God so loved each and every one of us that He gave His only Son, Jesus, so that everyone who believes in Him may not perish but have eternal life.
That day, they treated us to a delicious lunch, lovingly prepared for those of us taking part in the workshop; they also offered us an afternoon snack, and we were able to spend quality time together as a family of faith.
After lunch, we were given a mission: to go out in pairs to share the Gospel with four people from our community, putting into practice everything we had learnt. I went out with my husband and we took the opportunity to visit some brothers and sisters we hadn’t seen for a long time; we also met new people to whom we shared the good news of Jesus. When we finished, we all returned to the church where we held a closing session, sharing our experiences, praying and saying our goodbyes. I hope you enjoyed the post. Until next time.
