The silence of the night was shattered as Adams' instincts kicked in, and he caught a trespasser's hand reaching for his phone while he was lost in his book.
If being glued to books all day long is what makes someone be referred to as a bookworm, then feel free to refer to Adams as such. Adams is a guy who would stay awake all night trying to force all his lecture notes into his memory, especially during the examination period. He has a roommate, Ted by name, who doesn't need to dine all night with his book before he captures all the necessary facts. When Adams would be awake fighting with his books, Ted would be feeling the softness of his bed.
On one eventful night, Ted was already in dreamland while Adams was awake as usual, sitting on his chair, resting his hands on the table that was carrying the rechargeable lantern, his different books in their volumes, and his phone. The table is situated very close to the only window in the one room apartment and its glass was slid open to allow in air. He need not be scared of anything because the window has iron rods fixed to it as protectors and a net well fixed to avoid mosquitoes or any possible penetration by an intruder.
Around 2:30 am, he became so tired and was dozing off and in his state of dizziness, he saw a hand from the window, moving so quietly to grab his phone, and immediately the hand grabbed the phone to return back to the other side. He woke up from slumber and seized the hand from the window with his two hands.
"Ted!" He screamed out, trying to wake up his roommate to help him deal with the thief.
Ted was already deep in sleep and didn't hear his name being screamed. Adams held the hand of the thief from the window so tight that the two of them began to battle; the thief tried to get his hand off of Adams while Adams held his hand so tightly. Adam was using his hand to hit the iron rods out of anger, to send pain to the thief.
"Ted Ted Ted!" He screamed again, and this time it was so loud that it went into dreamland to drag Ted out.
"Jesus!" Ted jumped up from the bed, shocked at the sight of what was happening to his friend.
Without being told anything, he rushed Inside the kitchen and brought out a knife. He was about to scatter the thief's hand, but Adams stopped him, "You want to fill this room with blood? Don't cut him; let's hit this hand on the protector until it becomes useless, and then he'll surrender and we'll catch him".
"No ooo! This hand is supposed to be cut off so he won't steal again in the remaining days of his life," Ted said as he moved closer to slice the hand, but Adams shunned him again.
"Guy, stop, just join me to hit the arm on the rods; let's break it instead of cutting it."
Ted stirred at his struggling friend, he concurred and joined Adams to hold the hand. They began to hit the hand repeatedly and aggressively on the iron, and the thief kept muffling sounds out of pain while he struggled so hard to pull out, but no way, their force was stronger than his.
As they kept hitting the hand on the rod, Adams noticed that the hand had become weak and was not struggling with them again. He stopped hitting and told Ted to stop because it seemed the guy had surrendered, but he didn't listen; he kept hitting the hand aggressively.
Adams forcefully seized the next hit from Ted and said, "It's okay!"
Ted stopped, unsatisfied.
"He's weak already, which shows he has surrendered. Let's go get him. Pick up the key on the floor and go get him in the backyard while I hold his hand." Adams said using is face to direct Ted on where to get the key. Ted picked up the key and moved outside.
Immediately after Ted left the scene, going to the backyard to get him, the thief used his second hand to cut Adams's hand with a sharp iron on his key chain.
"Ayaaaaaaa!" Adams let out a cry of pain and let his hand go, and the thief ran away before Ted could get to the backyard.
Adams began to shout at the top of his voice to awaken neighbours, "Thief! Thief! Thief!"
Not even a single soul came out to help them; they searched around to see if they could hunt down the thief but he was long gone.
There went back to their house feeling fulfilled with the paralysed arm they gave to the thief before he succeded to run away. Also, the thief didn't succeed in taking away the phone.
