How are you all my wonderful creative friends and community members? I hope you are all having a fantastic start to this beautiful season. I am sharing my participation in the latest drawing challenge called the Charactober Great Leafturn which is similar to Inktober but focuses purely on character design. Today’s prompt is the Leaf Sorter and even though this isn’t a Pinky and Spiky comics entry I knew I wanted to use my original Pinky character for this design challenge.
I thought it would be such a fun and cute idea to reimagine her as a dedicated little leaf sorter for the forest. When working on the design process my main consideration was how to adapt her outfit and color palette to fit the autumnal theme. Instead of her usual look with that ubiquitous green scarf, I completely redesigned her clothes using warm earthy tones like mustard yellow, brown, beige, rich maroon, and soft greens. She is wearing a leaf-shaped apron with handy pockets for storing her favorite leaves and a cute pot-shaped hat decorated with an acorn and a bright colored leaf she already sorted. I gave her a nice pair of bloomers so she can do the job of sorting leaves quite comfortably. A sweater and socks to keep her warm during the changing of the season. I kept her signature pink skin and distinct facial expression so you still recognize her instantly. I had such a great time dressing her character up with this new fall aesthetic. It was a bit of a challenge working with colors other than her usual palette. I tried to introduce blue to give her a punch of unexpected color. Unfortunately any shade of blue I chose didn't prove to be useful there is always something wrong but I can't tell what it is. Even the red and deep burgundy had their own clashes with the rest of the colors I tried to balance them by adjusting their saturation and combining them with beige initially but beige seemed a little bit bright. So I picked golden brown. Hope everything goes well.
