"Why did you wink like that?" Jenny narrowed her eyes and took another step away from Joey. "Are you suggesting that I steal a mobility scooter?"
That would be just the kind of thing he would do, that he would suggest, although there was no way he would refer to it as 'stealing.' It was like such notions weren't active in his brain. He would just casually waltz into a retirement village, find a poor old lady's scooter, and lay claim to it as he zoomed around the corner upon its seat. There wouldn't be a word at all. Possibly a hoot and a woot as he waved his invisible cowboy hat around. Perhaps he would even obtain a cowboy hat for this purpose.
It was just the kind of thing he would do.
"What?" Joey's eyes widened. "I would never suggest that you steal something. We would liberate one, of course."
"Of course." Jenny nodded. "Liberate..."
Suddenly, Joey jumped down to his hands and feet and raised his arse to the sky.
"Uh... what are you doing?"
"Yoga stretches, Jenny."
"Right now?"
"You should do them too. You might gain some insight into your dilemma."
"Right now!?"
Joey lifted a leg into the air, allowing that leg of his cargo shorts to slip down to his bottom and show off his vibrant white skin. Jenny clenched her eyes shut.
"I don't need to see this."
"Less talking, more doing."
Jenny peeped open one eye and glanced around. No one seemed to be paying attention to the strange ginger-haired guy doing yoga stretches on a dirty footpath beside a busy road. Everyone still seemed intent on fleeing from every direction. She didn't even realise that this many people lived in this town. Maybe these were all the same people, just driving around in circles; maybe they had all gone mad.
Maybe they'd run out of petrol soon.
