The morning traffic was horrendous.

Car after car zoomed past, barely leaving a gap between them. Jenny winced. She was never going to be able to cross this road. She was never going to get her breakfast muffins. What a pain in the arse.

She placed a huffy hand upon her hip and glared at the traffic. Finally, what appeared to be a four-car-gap approached. She wouldn't normally take such a risk, but this was ridiculous. It'd be close, but she'd make it.

Pacing herself, she waited for the car to pass and then scurried across the road... and almost got smushed by a van that came out of nowhere.

The driver laid on the horn and gave her the finger as he screeched past and she rolled her eyes in response. Why was everyone such a wanker this morning?

"Muffins, muffins, muffins," she muttered beneath her breath. That was all that mattered. Muffins.

Hurrying down the footpath, she approached a set of traffic lights. These, at least, would allow her to cross in safety. Unfortunately, these particular lights were a nightmare; they were set to a four-way timer and if she wasn't fast enough she'd miss the cycle and have to wait for it. That wouldn't be an issue with any other set of lights, but these ones? The cycle could take up to 8 minutes to complete. These lights were one of the few things in life she'd actually run for.

Luckily, she didn't need to run.

Unluckily, it appeared to not even matter.

Various cars and vans and trucks drove every which way, honking their horns at one another as they ignored the red lights and basic decorum and forced their way through the road. They swerved around each other, each one appearing to be in a race to escape something. The thing was, everyone was going everywhere... so, everyone was trying to get to where someone else was fleeing.

Jenny screwed up her face and released a small moan. Breakfast muffins were out of reach for now unto eternity.

Hulloooooo!

It's Day 1475 of mariannewest@mariannewest's five-minute freewrite prompt. Today's prompt is -- morning traffic.

You can find today's challenge, and join in tooooooo, behind these blue words.

I haven't written for a while. So I'm forcing myself to! And I'm also forcing Joey and Jenny out of retirement to help me! Muahahaha!

I didn't write this in five minutes. I initially wrote a thing about Jenny trying to cross the road and then reaching the traffic lights, which took five minutes. Then I spent another 15 minutes or so rewriting it and expanding upon it and voila! 🙃

See you tomorrow with more!
I promise!
I will be keeping up the writing!!!!!

(I must keep up the writing)

❤️❤️❤️
