I read this post by @nonsowrites and it left me thinking at 5 am. Recently, I've been powering up every hive I have, at least a day I Power up at least one hive.
Sometimes I randomly do 50 or 45 hive within the month. My power-up aims are to majorly support the content of others, especially within the Nigerian community, help them grow, and help them stay active especially when I look at the demographics.
However, it saddens me when some of these people are constantly powering down and not stacking, or having plans to eventually support users that might also come after them.
It's understandable, Nigeria is arguably the most terrible place to live in the world
.....a lot of people cannot meet up their financial goals because, there are no jobs and the ones we have, the competition is just mind-blowing.
Before you even begin to compete, you've already lost. The minimum wage in Nigeria is just about 30k and with the current rise in inflation. 30k is not even enough to feed in a month. How about rent? Savings, budgeting, electricity and all?
Sometimes I do not blame people for their financial decisions. People make financial decisions out of the uniqueness of their problems, and how these problems threaten their resolve and stability.
Sometimes people put themselves first above everything and while this might seem selfish from the third-person point of view.
Nigeria is a place that has conditioned people to constantly feel financially insecure. I left home at 17, with one of the most terrible health conditions, I was in a deadbeat environment, unsure if I'd survive or not.
I met people who took advantage of me to build their own goals. But as an adult now, I've grown to understand that the selfishness of some people isn't really of their own making.
Even if they had the choice to be better people, they chose not to and this is because sometimes, it is harder to be good, it takes sacrificing your essence and that which you cherish to be a good person.
I'm currently in the most difficult financial situation at the moment, sometimes I wake up depressed, especially when I enter my calculator mode
sometimes I'm walking on the road and I'm thinking of how to take care of things, without liquidating myself. I've not bought any clothes in 3 years, but I'm happy because that money took care of certain needs.
We live in a world where we are suffering and smiling
I met someone recently, she must have done a financial scrutiny on me by looking at my WhatsApp statuses, and when she came begging for money, I wasn't surprised.
She was actually in a much better place than me financially, but because of her ostentatious nature with money, she probably couldn't handle the inflation.
I always make it a necessity to ask people about their health and financial status, because good looks, Quality clothes, or good cologne do not tell the financial status of people, this is because I know my condition is the worst.
People keep up appearances with empty balances in their bank accounts. A lot of people are faking, so as not to appear wretched to their friends and family. We have a way of broke-shaming people in Nigeria.
I had an intended date with a lady a long time ago, and she said she wouldn't go out with me if my shoes are less than 5k. Because people are not dressed flashily, we might not offer them jobs, companionship, or even build connections with them.
It's surprising, but I wear cheap clothes, I know my background, I know my capabilities, and I'm constantly on the grind to mend financial emergencies. If there's one thing my health conditioning has taught me, it is that I should always have some extra cash for medications.
I have known very good and very bad people
Some of the people who are my friends, even health-shame me and my inability to keep up with very hectic jobs. (I've lost jobs over the years on account of health issues).
But I still feel that people are as wise as the challenges and experiences. At the end of the day, I'm still conditioned to helping people provided it's within my means.
I'm always on the plea to people to live responsible lives. The reason why my whole life is constantly on the mend is because I'm suffering from the consequences of the choices that two people made.
This is why I tell people to be conscious. Every action we take has a way of constantly reverberating around money, for example, if you sire a child out of sexual pleasure without being prepared, it not only affects your life, it makes it difficult to give that baby a financial cushion that might help them compete well in life.
Early last month I decided to do some microsourcing jobs, they were really tough, but I had to, I wanted to buy some hive and have some money to take care of other needs, but I haven't gotten enough, but the hustle is 24/7, provided there's life.
