All I had on my mind was how I was going to solve the problem in the business math open test that we were given during lecture. I was desperately trying to figure out the correct answer. My heart was racing and my palms were sweating. I was determined to get this question right.

After a few attempts, I still couldn't make it right. Without caring if the others behind me were uncomfortable, I flipped my long braid to the back. I took a deep breath, closed my eyes,,, and focused. I thought of all the strategies and formulas we had learned during the semester and quickly put them to use. Finally, I had the correct answer and a wave of relief washed over me.

A tap on the shoulder interrupted my thoughts.

"Don't you want us to write too," he asked.

As I turned back, I wondered what he meant until I noticed my hair was on their table. I was so focused on my work that I didn't bother to check if I had the students behind me uncomfortable with my long braid. I blushed in embarrassment and quickly apologized, assuring them that I would be more mindful.

"Oh, sorry, I didn't know I disturbed you with my hair", I apologised.

I turned back to face the problem I was solving when I noticed the person I had disturbed was staring at me. I couldn't help but feel a little embarrassed. I offered a small smile and went back to my work.

I then thought about how old my long braid was, I don't plan to change it anytime soon. I thought about how much I had changed since I started growing it. It was a sign of my commitment to myself and to the things I was working on. I was determined to keep going and the braid was a reminder of that.
