The day I will never forget was when I had to go through hell just to get money from the bank.
Someone would have said that there are other agencies that I would have easily gotten money from, Like the POS guys but the truth is that those agencies were not in existence then.
Mum wanted to travel the following day so she handed over her card to me to go and withdraw some money she will be using for her traveling but on getting to the nearest bank in my street just to go queue up under the sun we know what I am talking about na as a typical Nigerian.
Not after an hour of delay with a very poor network service to deal with which made everyone that went up to ATMhine to transact spend About 20 to 30 minutes. I counted from the number 26 person up till when I was the number 2 with just one person in front of me.
Ohh!!!! My God was what I heard when the guy climbed up to the machine. What is the problem? I asked if the network was gone and he replied everyone in the queue began to hiss and as usual the insult and everything followed up.
We sat on the staircase for about 40 minutes. I couldn't give up as I had spent more time and had gone too far to give up. I sat patiently as I watched people depart one after the other. The service then came back and the guy in front of me quickly jumped up and slotted in his card. I was at ease since I knew I was the next in line. The joy suddenly came as a smile flashed on my face.
The guy made his transaction and left then my turn o walked up to the machine slotted my card entered the amount and pin and was waiting patiently for that joyous sound that always comes whenever we go to withdraw money from the ATM but it is close to 2 mins the sound did not come was hoping it's a bad network until it displayed a sentence that made me felt like melting. "machine temporary unable to dispense cash" we all know what that means on a Saturday evening. At this point all hope is lost so I took the money I was supposed to transport myself back home to go to another branch hoping that when I get the money from that branch I will use part of it as transportation back home.
I went to the next branch. I saw quite several people in the queue but the network here seems to be faster as each one that goes up to the machine takes a few seconds. I counted from the last person until I was the number three meaning I have just two people ahead of me before it gets to my turn. But soon the next person went up there.
ohhhhh!!!!!!!
My eyes opened wide as I knew already that I had just gotten myself into a deep mess as the money I could not get since the same English written on the other machine is the same written here. Here is a 10km walk waiting for me.
That day I got home angry with everyone including the sender.
Ever since then warned that if she ever needs money for stuff like this the agreement should be done earlier.
I will never forget that movement.
