The feeling of returning to your homeland is indescribable; it’s almost like the gaita song says: “Without realizing it, I’m trembling, and without meaning to, I’m crying.”

And those who know that song might think I’m talking about Maracaibo, but no, that’s not it—I’m referring to my hometown, Caracas, Venezuela; I was born there, but for reasons beyond my control, my parents moved to another state in Venezuela, and the truth is that I also feel that place is my home. We moved when I was very young—I was barely two years old—and I grew up there until I was fifteen; I didn’t set foot in my hometown again until I was that age. I always imagined it, but I had never seen it—or if I did, I don’t remember because I was so young.

When I turned fifteen, my family returned to Caracas to spend another three years there, and so I was able to spend part of my adolescence in my homeland; those were the happiest years of my life: I learned to love it, to appreciate it, and to truly enjoy it. What I feel when I’m there is indescribable. When I came of age, my family moved again, and I—being very obedient—had to go with them; I couldn’t stay in my homeland, even though that was my greatest wish.

That’s why, ever since then, my greatest wish has been to be able to live in my homeland again; I’ve only had the chance to visit it from time to time. So when an opportunity like this came up—where we were offered a trip to attend an exhibition, as I mentioned in a previous post—I accepted the invitation without a second thought and set out to explore my beloved hometown, Caracas, once again, and this time with my children, who were amazed and fell in love with it even though they only got to see a few places.

I really can’t explain how I feel when I drive along its highways, its streets—in short, all over the city. The atmosphere is so pleasant and refreshing; I love the joy of its people as they head to work; I love the vitality you can feel there. The people are very kind, polite, and loving. Despite some difficulties, Caracas remains beautiful, and I’ll continue to love it until the end of my days, without losing hope that one day I’ll return to live in my homeland.

And, of course, I couldn’t pass up the chance to take some beautiful photos to share with you on my favorite platform.

Thank you for your time, support, and comments. Until next time.
