Saludos. El amigo @emiliorios en su columna para la comunidad @beentrepreneur nos invita a reflexionar sobre la importancia de la educación para la formación de una mentalidad emprendedora. Les comento…

Durante mi infancia las opciones relacionadas con el mundo del trabajo eran relativamente sencillas. La mayoría se preparaba para ser empleado, la gente estudiaba y se formaba pensando que al final de la adolescencia, o quizá un poco antes, le llegaría el momento de tocar alguna puerta para que un alma generosa “le diera trabajo”.

Estaba otro grupo más pequeño que se planteaba una expectativa distinta y pensaba en hacerse “profesional”, estudiar alguna carrera universitaria, Medicina, Ingeniería, Derecho, que le permitiera la oportunidad de ejercer su profesión libremente, sin tener que depender necesariamente de algún empleador.

Y eran realmente muy pocos los que se planteaban crear un negocio que permitiera generar riqueza y que aportara nuevas posibilidades de empleos para los demás…

Toda esa mentalidad tenía que ver con razones culturales. Nuestro país se había acostumbrado a vivir de la riqueza producida por el Estado. Había un discurso que planteaba que todos debíamos participar de ese reparto, que sin hacer casi nada ya teníamos asegurado una porción del pastel. Ese discurso contribuía a multiplicar una mentalidad bastante conformista y dependiente…

Pero en este nuevo siglo las cosas han cambiado mucho, ya el país petrolero no garantiza los ingresos para todos. Ahora es muy necesario que las personas puedan generar iniciativas para producir riquezas. Sin que nadie lo pidiera nos ha llegado el momento de asumir otra mentalidad.

Afortunadamente las condiciones creadas por la globalización y la aparición de las nuevas tecnologías abren un conjunto de posibilidades infinitas. Es verdad que estamos en un momento donde se pueden desarrollar proyectos de todo tipo. Pero para aprovechar todo ese potencial que ofrece el momento actual se requiere pensar las cosas de otro modo, un asunto que tiene que ver principalmente con la educación.

Son varias las tareas que debe emprender la educación de este tiempo para propiciar una mentalidad más emprendedora. Quizá la más importante sea convencer a las personas que sus capacidades son infinitas, que en cada uno reside la posibilidad de lograr grandes cosas. Es fundamental que se genere confianza en sí mismo y que cada quien se haga consciente del valor que tiene como ser humano.

Otra cuestión importante es cambiar nuestra percepción del riesgo y del fracaso.

En mi generación el riesgo era visto como algo poco amigable, que debía evitarse en lo posible. Y por eso resultaba tan atractivo ser empleado de alguien.

Ser empleado proporciona la seguridad de contar con un ingreso quince y último, lo que en realidad resulta muy cómodo puesto que el riesgo se les deja a los demás. Sin embargo, luego de un tiempo muchos se dan cuenta que los empleos se convierten en rutinas que matan la creatividad, pero el temor al riesgo puede ser tan potente que impide a la gente intentar otras alternativas.

Para avanzar hacia una mentalidad más emprendedora es necesario asumir el riesgo como algo más natural. Los jóvenes deben aprender a ver el riesgo como parte de la vida, como una apuesta imprescindible que se hace para poder cambiar el rumbo de las cosas.

Pero no podemos ser ingenuos, también hay que decir a los jóvenes que todo riesgo lleva implícito la posibilidad del fracaso, lo que nos permite promover una enseñanza más.

Nos hemos acostumbrado a entender los fracasos como pequeñas o grandes catástrofes. Visto de esa manera dejamos por fuera el carácter educativo que conlleva cada fracaso.

La verdad es que toda vivencia, incluidas las del fracaso, siempre nos dejan alguna enseñanza, siempre nos abren la posibilidad de repensar diferentes perspectivas.

Es muy probable que si logramos poner esos temas en la agenda educativa tengamos una generación distinta, donde sea mucho más fácil asumir el espíritu emprendedor.

When I was growing up, the options related to the world of work were relatively simple. Most were preparing to be employed, people studied and trained thinking that by their late teens, or perhaps a little earlier, the time would come for them to knock on some door and a generous soul would "give them a job".

There was another smaller group that had a different expectation and thought of becoming a "professional", studying a university degree, medicine, engineering, law, which would allow them the opportunity to practice their profession freely, without necessarily having to depend on an employer.

And there were really very few people who thought about creating a business that would generate wealth and provide new employment opportunities for others...

All this mentality had to do with cultural reasons. Our country had become accustomed to living off the wealth produced by the State. There was a discourse that said that we all had to participate in this distribution, that without doing almost anything we were already assured a slice of the cake. This discourse contributed to multiplying a rather conformist and dependent mentality...

But in this new century things have changed a lot, the oil country no longer guarantees income for everyone. Now it is very necessary for people to be able to generate initiatives to produce wealth. Without anyone asking for it, the time has come for us to assume another mentality.

Fortunately, the conditions created by globalization and the emergence of new technologies open up a set of infinite possibilities. It is true that we are at a time when all kinds of projects can be developed. But in order to take advantage of all the potential offered by the present moment, it is necessary to think things differently, a matter that has to do mainly with education.

There are several tasks that must be undertaken by the education of this time to promote a more entrepreneurial mentality. Perhaps the most important is to convince people that their capabilities are infinite, that in each person lies the possibility of achieving great things. It is essential that self-confidence is generated and that each person becomes aware of his or her value as a human being.

Another important issue is to change our perception of risk and failure.
In my generation, risk was seen as something unfriendly, to be avoided if possible. And that's why it was so attractive to be someone's employee.

Being an employee provides the security of having an income fifteen and last, which is actually very comfortable since the risk is left to others. However, after a while many find that jobs become routines that kill creativity, but the fear of risk can be so powerful that it prevents people from trying other alternatives.

To move toward a more entrepreneurial mindset, it is necessary to take risk more naturally. Young people must learn to see risk as part of life, as an essential gamble to be able to change the course of things.

But we cannot be naïve, we must also tell young people that every risk implies the possibility of failure, which allows us to promote one more lesson.

We have become accustomed to understand failures as small or big catastrophes. Seen in this way, we leave out the educational character that every failure entails.

The truth is that all experiences, including those of failure, always leave us with a lesson, always open up the possibility of rethinking different perspectives.

It is very likely that if we manage to put these issues on the educational agenda we will have a different generation, where it will be much easier to assume the entrepreneurial spirit.
