Hi there!!! Welcome back to my #whatscookingtoday !!! Haven't posted what I cooked for a while and here I am today!
Today I bring you one of my favorite dish to eat - Turmeric Cabbage and Carrots!!!
It is really very easy to cook it. But there is a tedious part which is the cutting of cabbage and carrots into julienne sized. I used to use my mandolin to slice them thin and julienne them but today I decided to cut them by knife.
My husband came to the rescue after he saw me taking forever hahahah!
So....
Here are the ingredients needed:
👩🍳A handful of dried shrimps
👩🍳Napa cabbage
👩🍳Carrots
👩🍳Minced garlic
👩🍳200g minced pork
👩🍳Turmeric powder
I had to go out to get Turmeric powder half way during my preps because I just realized I ran out of it at home! Thank goodness there is a convenient shop nearby my house just 3 minutes drive away. I just grabbed whichever brand available. Turmeric has good health benefits so I used to take it to ease my inflammation too. Turmeric has this natural compound called cucurmin.
According to Healthline
Turmeric — and especially its most active compound, curcumin — have many scientifically proven health benefits, such as the potential to improve heart health and prevent against Alzheimer’s and cancer.
It’s a potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. It may also help improve symptoms of depression and arthritis.
The preps started with chopping and mincing the garlic and dried shrimps.
Then I started to julienne the carrots and cabbages.
After that I seasoned my minced pork with some soy sauce and some white pepper powder.
Let's get cooking shall we???
Firstly, let's heat up some oil in a pan or a wok. I always use my wok hehe.
Added in the dried shrimps and also the garlic. Immediately, the whole kitchen smell so good with the dried shrimps fragrance.
Add in the seasoned minced pork and fry them till they brown.
Now it is time to add in the vegetables. I added the julienne cabbages first.
Followed by the carrots.
Give them a good stir and fry them till they soften a little more.
Then I added in some oyster sauce, pepper and a bit of chicken stock to season to taste.
Last but not least, not to forget the star ingredient - Turmeric powder!!!
Voila, it is done!!!!
I love to eat this with or without rice. Usually the mamaks in Malaysia (eateries run by Muslim indians) have this dish in their spread of nasi kandar (mixed rice with dishes). I did not eat this when I was staying with my parents but ever since ai tasted it here in KL, I like it very much and try to replicate it at home. Though the mamaks outside add extra ingredients like mustard seeds and maybe some dried chilli, I think mine is not bad too!!!
Thank you for reading about what I do in my humble kitchen!!
