Hello dear lovely creators on Hive, feels great to make it to another fresh week, wishing everyone a great and fulfilling ahead.
It's also very exciting to make it to another needlework Monday, as I sure have an interesting project to share with you. A friend reached out to me last week to make her a dress that would be befitting a bridesmaid as one of her friends is getting married this weekend, you know how I love making bridal, birthday, or any celebration-inspired outfits, and this was no exception.
She took inspiration from the outfit I made for my sister recently which I also shared on this platform, a two-piece outfit, skirt, and blouse with straps, However, she wants a twist of the original design, instead of the flowers I used in the previous outfit, she wants me to bead hers around the bust and hemline area.
Today is going to be about the skirt-making process, I've made a lot of straight skirts in the past, but never have I made one with a brocade fabric, which makes this skirt unique one, I've always wondered what a skirt made with brocade fabric would look like, as brocade fabric with its delicate texture and unique beautiful pattern mostly used to sew free bubu dress which often exudes class and elegance, and this skirt turned out perfect too making it kind of one-of-a-kind. she had also requested that I make the skirt very lengthy to cover her heels, which also makes it very fashionable as well and I made sure to deliver just as she has requested.
Without further ado, let's get right into the making process.
Materials used
Brocade fabric
Satin lining
Matching coloured thread
Zipper
Cutting And Sewing process
I started by drafting the skirt pattern using the satin fabric because of its soft texture and feel to the skin, it makes it more comfortable as lining between the brocade which has a rougher texture I carefully measured and cut out the pattern, measuring the waist, hip, and length.
Next, I copied the same pattern on the brocade fabric but made it longer than the satin fabric by two inches, since the satin fabric would serve as the lining fabric
- Then I lined the front and two pieces back pattern separately,
- then I sewed the zipper to the back waist to the hip area and also sewed it down to the knee area, leaving a slit opening.
- Finally, I joined the front and back patterns by the sides, using the seam allowance left, and that completes the making process of the beautifully patterned brocade skirt.
I will make sure to keep you all updated on making process of the upper blouse that completes this look, expect nothing less than elegance, my friend is just as eager to see her outfits get completed, and I am sure as well can't wait to get it completed, so I will have to stop right here and continue with the blouse making process.
