This time that the COVID-19 pandemic is at its peak, hospitalization is not a pleasant thought, we even repel it as much as we can, but in some cases it may be necessary. In our father's case, it is very necessary.
He had a mild stroke.
My mom noticed, in their prayer before bed, that he has difficulty in annunciating words. But, even before my mom could voice out her concern, my dad blurted out that he has difficulty in speaking. He even said that while eating, he keeps on unintentionally biting the left side of his lips. We know that something was wrong.
My mom immediately gave him a heart tonic so as to prevent heart attack, or something of that sort.
We asked dad if he wants to be sent to the hospital and he firmly said 'no.' To our surprise, when the little one heard the word "hospital," he exclaimed, "no, there's COVID there." We cannot contact his attending physician then, so we are very undecisive as to what to do.
So, my mom called a friend who is a nurse and told him about the situation. He recommended to have a blood chem, because the result can be read by any doctor not just our attending doctor anyway.
Because it was already late at night, we resolved to have the blood chem early the next morning. And off they went.
The result confirmed that his blood sugar counts are high, and other components too. We have finally contacted our doctor too and she greatly recommended for my dad to be admitted at a hospital, for the laboratory exams, like CT Scan, cardiogram, and all, will only be administered for admitted patients, not for out patient (due to this COVID-19 thingy).
Weighing the pros and cons, we decided that it is best for him to be admitted, since we only see his outer appearance but have no idea what is going on inside his body.
A day after admission, results came that my father also has pneumonia!
It was my greatest fear. I cried out of anxiety that it might be related to COVID-19. I was so scared. I pleaded Jehovah God in prayer that if it his will, my father would be able to surpass this health crisis.
I have been able to accompany my father at the hospital for two days, but most of the days my sister stays with him. (Here in the Philippines we are allowed to stay with the patient in the hospital room to care for his needs).
The CT scan result confirmed that he had stroke, but fortunately there's no bleeding! We were really happy. And his pneumonia is also related to his being a diabetic.
Jehovah answered our prayers. Less than a week after, my dad was discharged from the hospital.
Now, we need to be extra careful with his diet.
Life is so vulnerable. We need to give extra care to our health! ❤
