"We rise by lifting others" - Robert Ingersoll.
I find it difficult to comprehend why people with opportunities won't share for others to benefit, this is one problem we experience in my part of the world and somehow, it is affecting our growth and development terribly.
There are lots of talents out there, people with skills and knowledge that can have a great impact on society but they end up not getting the opportunity they need to apply what things they have got. I have heard motivational speakers saying that you should create opportunity when there is none which is good advice to an extent but the truth remains that not everyone has the resources to create opportunity for themselves.
Growth and development come when we help others, the benefit of helping others grow is beyond you reaping what you have done later in life, there are a lot of people who will also benefit from that opportunity you have given to someone else.

Recently, a friend was complaining about how terrible his job hunt was going, and shared my experience with him just to inspire him.
After graduation, getting a job was difficult. I spoke to a very close friend of mine who works in a bank and he told me that employment wasn't on.
He promised to keep me informed and I always reminded him. About a year after, his younger sister graduated and got a job in that same bank. The message was clear and I felt bad because his sister didn't do the job for two years before quitting.
He had the opportunity but wouldn't just give it and till today even though I don't need a job, he still tells me he is on the lookout for opportunities for me.
There are lots of people like him as well, they hold on to the opportunity in their care until it becomes irrelevant.
I have heard things like people misusing opportunities which is true but judging everyone by others mistake is not right as well.
After I fell victim to taking in a guy that carted away a sum of money at work, I didn't stop giving people the chance to earn a living in the organization where I work. Instead, I choose to be more careful with the employment process.
I employed some guys after the bad occurrence and they did make me proud. They were called out at the company state conference when I wasn't even working with them again and one of them went on to thank me for giving him the opportunity back then. They have accomplish good things and now have the opportunity to give to others as well
One thing we should think about is that if we weren't given the opportunity back then as well, we might not be where we are today so why cut the connection with others when we can actually build more connection by creating more opportunities for people to take, utilize and also repeat the process as well.
Are you scared they might outgrow you or you don't want them to surpass your achievement? These are silly thoughts. We should understand that the future is unpredictable and sometimes we need to always consider that table turns.
The effect of holding back opportunities when you can actually share with someone is many but I will mention a few.
It prevents growth and development. Imagine having an opportunity and not giving it to the right person, it will only hinder the speedy growth you must have experienced.
Not giving opportunities to people give a bad impression to someone who was denied the opportunity. He or she might turn out to do the same when they eventually struggle to reach a decent height in life.
You might be the one with the opportunity today and they might be the one with the opportunity tomorrow. We need one another to grow and we mustn't deprive ourselves of growth just because we don't want to share opportunities.
