Creative Cookie Cookery!
This weekend, like every weekend it seems, was an extravaganza! We have a friend moving out of her home of 30 years so that alone has added extra labor flavor to our lives, and then I had this crazy moment and told the children it was absolutely cool to have some friends over for Halloween. An entire day of cooking and baking later I might have been regretting that acquiescence. Nah, who am I kidding? I love having the kids over.
And let me tell you why! The group of teens that rotate through my doors have impressive skills. Let me start with their ingesting ability. Halloween night alone the kids put away a triple batch of homemade pizza rolls, a double batch of little smokies in a blanket, multiple bags of chips, a couple gallons of punch, a Costco bag plus four normal sized bags of candy, plus a party size pack of sandwich cookies that I amended to look all Halloween-cutesy.
In fact those filled sandwich cookies are mainly what this quick little post is about. I wanted something a bit festive for the kids to eat, but as I was already busy with about six thousand things Saturday, I really didn't have the time or the inclination to do an overly involved dessert. So here's what I did get up too:
First, I laid out all the sandwich cookies on some parchment paper:
Next, I melted some white chocolate chips in the old nuclear device (microwave). A double boiler will work to melt chocolate too if you are not inclined or have a microwave.
I then took a fork and adorned the sandwich cookies with mummy-like bandage flourishes.
And for the best part, I stuck candy googly eyes on the still liquid white chocolate for some super, extra special Halloween cool factor, because everything is better with googly eyes.
I think the cookies turned out super excellent. However, at this junction I will lodge a bit of a protestation at my husband and a couple of my friends who said that my cookies looked like mammary glands. Harrumph.
Anyway, all I know is that the adorned cookies disappeared like free samples at Costco, so even if they did look like appendages (which they don't) they still tasted good!
And that was a treat for me indeed!
And as most of the time, all of the images in this post were taken on the author's white chocolate coated and never to be demoted iPhone.
