Since May 2020, a total of one hundred and thirteen consecutive weeks, I've run the #weekend-engagement concept. The announcement post releases each Friday and the concept closes at 6pm Monday evening my time, (08:30 UTC).

I list four of five writing suggestions for users to select from and entries must be posted in the WEEKEND EXPERIENCES community. I vote the entries, generate votes from others and curate for @curangel, based on the merits of each entry post and on Monday I announce several favourites and transfer some prizes to the wallets of those account holders.

Over that time I've given away thousands of Hive to participants and whilst much has been my own I've had sponsors; my brother @tarazkp has sponsored almost every week and @dswigle has also showed great generosity. There's been others though and I'm very grateful to them all. The concept isn't a contest though, and the Hive transfer isn't so much a prize as an encouragement, a gift, from myself and the sponsors.

The concept was begun to get more activity onto the blockchain over the weekend (Saturday and Sunday) and was a comment-initiative originally.

I swapped over to a post-concept around week seventy as I felt it was a great chance to add some awesome content to the blockchain and showcase some accounts to the rest of the community. It was also designed to promote engagement, hence the name #weekend-engagement, and to help people develop and build new relationships - it's relationships that help grow accounts - the smart folk are creating and nurturing them.

What it wasn't designed to be was a reason for people to throw together a quick, low effort, post to gain an upvote from me and, potentially, some free hive.

My question to you:

Should I continue to offer the Hive transfer gift to my favourite posts?

Is it a valid thing to do considering the concept isn't a contest? Should the posts simply be rewarded only on their merit by upvotes and additional curation from the community in general if they deserve it? Should I need to gift people as an incentive for them to post with quality and effort or should they be able to find that initiative within themselves?

I've built many good relationships through running this concept and I wonder how many have done the same. I've always found my own motivation to write on Hive also and haven't needed to enter contests or concepts to do so; I tend to avoid them actually. I guess I wonder about the relevance of the Hive transfer gift I make to the six or seven favourite posts I select on Monday's; shouldn't people be self-motivated to post well?
