Sometimes on a Thursday I share a Viking quote. I choose a quote randomly and sometimes based upon relevance or meaning to my life, and share some thoughts on it. These thousand year old phrases still offer value in modern society. original im src

- Grettir's Saga -
Over the last several weeks I've been watched a Hive-user work very hard to destroy their account. The user was found to be acting in a manner counter-productive to the general community; it's the same old story - trying to take rewards from the reward-pool without putting any real effort. Recycling posts and wanting double rewards isn't well received by the Hive community.
There were several attempts by others to rectify the situation and a way forward was found and suggested however, as often happens, the user showed no accountability, no ownership or responsibility and decided to attack others instead, and still does. Again, it's all quite predictable behaviour and nothing the blockchain hasn't seen before. It's unlikely the the user will come back from it, *not because the community won't let that happen, but because of the users' own ego, pride, sense of entitlement and hubris. It's a shame really, but the user chose that course and must follow it all the way to the ignominious end they will ultimately find.
I chose this quote based on that situation, and others like it.
This quote indicates that, no matter one's thoughts and intentions, things don't always go to plan; the actions we take don't always work out the way we want them to either, no matter how much we desire it. Sometimes those thoughts, attitudes and actions, even the well-intentioned ones, just don't deliver the expected outcomes and can often have the reverse effect of that which we would like, as with the user I mention above.
The cool thing is, we have the ability to change our behaviours, to evaluate a situation, the past or present, and make amendments; we can investigate our thoughts and attitudes and readjust course towards a better result - It's easy, it just takes ownership, responsibility and discipline. This even goes for the user I refer to above; the ability to find resolutions, achieve better results, outcomes more aligned with their desires, is possible...Just take ownership, show responsibility and effort and apply a lot of discipline.
Life doesn't come with a certificate of guarantee and there's no return policy; it just is...and then stops when a person dies. Understanding that, and acting accordingly, seems to be the best way forward right?
We can change our fortunes, meaning we can drive towards better results, happiness, contentment and a better life in general; that's within our power. We can't expect to always receive exactly what we want though as some things are out of our control, especially when we take no positive steps to adjust, amend or alter our own behaviours. That doesn't mean we shouldn't try to work towards a better life though, in fact, it means the opposite.
That's it for this week, a thousand year-old Viking quote about understanding circumstances and situations don't always lead to the outcomes we want, that the cards don't always fall our way.
