I usually don't waste so much bread, but it sometimes happens that after a meal with relatives or friends the following day there's a lot of left bread. So, in this cases, I try to find recipes in order to use it for different purposes. I've already tried some soups, salads, bread gnocchi. And this time, I tried with stale bread pizza. The result was pretty tasty, so, here's the recipe!

Ingredients (for the pizza base):

  • 1.5 kg stale bread
  • 2 glasses of milk
  • 2 glasses of water
  • 2 spoons olive oil
  • salt
  • oregano

Ingredients (for the topping)

  • 500 ml tomato sauce
  • 200g mozzarella
  • sliced ham
  • black olives
  • salt
  • oregano
  • olive oil

Directions

  1. Cut the bread into small pieces and put them inside a bowl.
  2. Add milk, water, oil, salt, oregano and mix everything. Then let the mixture rest for 15 minutes.
  3. Take a pan (for the amount of bread I used, I put everything in a round pan of 28cm diameter), covered with parchment paper. Then spread the mixture homogenously on it, in order to get a uniform thickness.
  4. Put in preheated oven at 200掳C for 20 minutes.
  5. Remove from the oven and season as you like it. This time I put: tomato sauce, mozzarella, black olives, sliced ham, a pinch of salt, oregano and olive oil.
  6. At this point, bake again at 200掳C for about 10 minutes, just long enough to melt the mozzarella.
