Hello steemers, Today i want to share a lil Southern comfort food. I live in Louisiana and it's known as "Sportsman Paradise." Down in southern Louisiana we do a lot of hunting and fishing as a hobby and a source of food. I grew up enjoying the natural resources of the swamp. When growing up i was taught how to live off the land which includes hunting and fishing, cleaning the food, and cooking. As i grew older these foods became a staple on the menu at my house.
Here's what i consider Southern comfort food.
Back in time me and my father would go out on the weekends and spent quality time hunting and fishing. During hunting season we could come back home with deer, rabbit, squirrel or even a pig. Now with my busy lifestyle I'm not able to hunt like i use to. Lucky where i live they sell game animals at the grocery store. Rabbit is one of my favorite game animal along with deer.
The hardest part of the process is cleaning and cutting up the animal. This rabbit is already skinned that leaves me to trim and cut it up.
Next is the fun part cooking the rabbit. Here in the south it's tradition to use a black cast iron pot. This method browns down and tenderizes the meat. As the meat browns you must add water periodically to keep the rabbit from burning.
The finished results is served with rice and green beans
This might be off putting to some but i was raised on these kinds of food and it's normal in my culture. Don't judge it until you try it. Rabbit tastes similar to chicken but much healthier due to it's fat content. Hope you enjoyed a lil Southern comfort food. Thanks for stopping by and viewing. I am a proud member of the #steemsilvergold and @ssg-community.
