Once upon a time there was a fishing village, built on seven islands that formed the mouth of a river; a peaceful place where almond trees and marigolds bloomed every spring.
In a family similar to so many others in the area, fishermen and industrious artisans, a beautiful, healthy girl was born, with a face brimming with sympathy. Habitual event and celebrated by the generality of the human race, but not fate, but demons from the other side of the world, chose the peaceful town as a destination for revenge for the resentment arisen between the would-be masters of the world.
The demons had made the hottest and most corrosive rain in hell, which on the day the fisherman's daughter was born, they decided to throw on her town with a thunderous explosion. The mother and father died instantly along with their neighbors.

Why her newborn survived, we don't know, but she did and when rescuers found her among her rubble, they marveled in disbelief, she was alive despite the hellish heat and her injuries; I don't want to describe the horror, but you can imagine it. They took her to the doctors and nurses who cared for those who managed to get out of her alive. Many died and those who didn't, well, they would have preferred to die.

The girl who was born on that day, for lack of a known name, was named Mermaid. There was never a better chosen name, her voice captivated those who heard her sing and in her water her agile and graceful movements made them forget the terrible mutilations she suffered.

Sirena, she would live in the hospital for more than a year, in the care of loving hands that mitigated her disabilities, but the terror and horror did not end here. A year or so after the explosion, births in the region brought to the world beings of little human appearance, only their little faces, some contracted in pain, reflected the hell they suffered, so they decided that those who managed to survive one day, they were transferred to a sanatorium where they could receive the possible care. There Sirena ended up, next to her lesser companions in misfortune. Loving hands lavished on them the care that despite their regret failed to prolong their lives. The cemetery of small tombs, a silent cry of indescribable pain, awaits justice in the peace of the graves.
