Las palabras se cayeron. Todas tiradas quedaron.

The words fell. They were all left scattered on the floor. I tried to gather them up, but they slipped through my fingers. Disorganized and broken, they seemed to be agonizing.
I grew desperate to find one that struck me as more accurate, sharp, or just. Perhaps so as not to lose it, to try to fix it up a bit, to dust it off. But all I could see was noise.
The wind flung the window open and scattered them throughout the house. The cats walked right over them as if they couldn’t see them. I tried to step on them as little as possible while I looked for the broom. I swept a bit to gather them up just as it started to rain. The water that came in formed a quagmire of grime and words. I suppose there are still two or three of them, half-disoriented, under the bed.
Then I closed the window and started singing, quietly at first, just humming. Then I drew on the courage that came from a glass of wine—and the guitar too. The song just flowed out. I stayed like that for a while.
I couldn’t fix the whole mess of mutilated words. Some did come together a little and started moving again. Soon, others appeared that I didn’t use very often. Later, I managed to bring them all together: the old ones, the new ones, the worn-out ones, the wounded ones.An unusual path emerged, which I am treading cautiously. A disorderly trail—who knows where it will take me...
