The Cocoa Ball
It had been so long since I’d seen a cocoa ball, and coming across one out of the blue took me right back to my childhood. I remembered my grandmother dissolving the cocoa ball in water and then adding powdered milk.
It was so normal to have these cocoa balls at home—they were always given to my grandmother as gifts. The smell of cocoa filled every corner of the house, and the joy of that anticipation was so beautiful and exciting.
New powdered milk for making yogurt
I often check Supermercado Río’s Instagram to see what’s on sale, and there I saw a couple of milk products that were a good price. So I decided to stop by the supermarket to buy some of them, with the intention of using part of it to make yogurt and see how it turns out with this milk.
While at the supermarket, I went to the aisle where the powdered milk is located, and when I checked one of the milk products, I noticed it contained vegetable oil; so I ruled it out immediately.
I checked the other brand of milk, called Kanny, which is Dutch in origin and sold in the Dominican Republic, and this one is indeed 100% cow’s milk, so that’s the one I chose; a 900-gram bag cost less than $13.
This is the milk I’ll use for my next batch of yogurt. I’ll let you know how it turns out!
¡Excelente!
Rehydrating Whipped Cream*
I had to rehydrate some whipped cream to decorate a cake. Since it had been whipped a few days earlier, it had become grainy in the fridge. So, after researching how to rehydrate it, I found that the process was very easy.
All you have to do is gradually add very cold whipped cream and mix it in with a spatula using gentle folding motions. It’s magical how the whipped cream regains its silky texture, perfect for filling and frosting cakes.
Excellent!
