Office day

Today was a desk day — hours in the office, head down in work, body mostly still. The only breaks from the screen were two short walks with the dogs, one in the morning and one in the evening. Nothing long, just enough to stretch the legs and let the two of them do their thing. Those walks are a quiet but reliable part of the daily routine and they always add up more than they seem — especially when you have two dogs pulling you in different directions.

The late run

By 11:27 pm the step count was still short of the daily 9k target. The sensible thing would have been to call it a day. Instead I laced up and headed out into the night for a 3.4 km run — just enough to close the gap and cross the line. There is something oddly satisfying about a late night run like that. The streets are empty, the air is cool, the world has gone quiet, and it is just you and the pavement for a few minutes. No pressure, no agenda, just ticking the box in the most direct way possible.

Short? Yes. Necessary? Absolutely.

The takeaway

Some days the heroic thing is simply not giving up on the goal when it would be very easy to do so. A 3.4 km run at nearly midnight is not a training breakthrough — but it is a small act of consistency, and those are the ones that build the streak.
