Yesterday was bloody mental. In fact this week so far has been packed full of goodness goodies, much of which was on an ever growing to-do list I decided to write in a stroke of idiocy genius over the weekend. Endless appointments, inflows and outflows of work, some errands to run (one of which was pretty cool actually) and the various other trivial fillers that pop up : like staying sane by making sure there's coffee.
Interestingly enough I found myself in a strange mood late last night and if you can handle what transpires in this tragic post, you'll eventually understand why.
I've never really described myself as a foodie by any measure. I suppose I enjoy good food just as much as the next person, but I don't go out of my way to photograph every meal I make or even most of the ones I have out for that matter. It's just never been my thing. When the food is infront of me, I have one mission and that's to devour the crap out of it there and then preferably while it's still warm able to burn my tastebuds to smithereens so I can't taste food for days.
See, I set myself a goal for who knows why a while ago and this is the sum total of my efforts. I think it's not too bad actually. I decided I would change some things starting with my attitude towards food and the invariable dishes that come thereafter 🙄
I've been creating all manner of funky things from stews to pretty nicely balanced plates with all the colours you need for those shiny magazine type spreads, barbeques, dumplings (oh my absolute fuck - I love dumplings, they are the shizz nizz!), pizza, pastries and well, are you hungry yet?
Yes, I'm also very well aware of the fact that the cover image is duplicated in the collage above
Hmmm, look at that sexy pizza right there! Horribly fucking spoiled by the amount of rocket they dumped on top. This one I didn't make. Could you tell? I bet you couldn't. I did photograph it though and I also demolished it after disposing of that detestable green stuff.
I've been trying to get more adventurous too. I made a chicken thing a few nights ago that I wasn't too sure of to be honest. It was meant to be a simple chicken-a-la-king type thing with rice, but the sauce I made didn't turn out the way I was expecting it would. It ended up being sweet and sour chicken which was still tasty and my house mate thought it was divine, but I wasn't entirely convinced. At least it wasn't burnt chicken biscuits from leaving the stuff in the oven for too long. Been there, burnt that, will never live it down either. I was disappointed in myself. It's one of the reasons I've been trying to get back to...
Embracing my fucking kickass awesome culinariness (this is most definitely not a word) and I've just ploughed in with gusto and been documenting my progress. And here are some more tasty morsels I've made recently...
Yeah fuck, more dumplings because...hmmm so damn good. Can you tell I like them yet?
Then I got this stupid flu and while it somewhat dented my enthusiasm for life in general, I've still managed to make good dinners. My housemate is starting to miss cooking 🤣 Oh well. Too damn bad!
And then yesterday happened.
By the early evening I started morphing into "𝕿𝖍𝖊 𝕲𝖗𝖚𝖒𝖕𝖑𝖎𝖓𝖌 𝕯𝖚𝖒𝖕𝖑𝖎𝖓𝖌". Oh yes, it happens sometimes, but it's not an entirely bad thing. My housemate had gone out for dinner with his mates and I had my head down trying to finish off my bloody to-do list. This included a handful of jobs that I really don't fancy too much. I did them but every one started to tip me a little further over.
Then I realised it was 9pm and I hadn't eaten dinner. I wasn't just hangry, I was fucking ravenous! This was actually a great sign. It meant that my appetite that had waned with this stupid flu was coming back - with a vengeance. But like the annoying cow I am, when I'm hangry, I become more annoying.
MOOOOO!!!
So I dropped everything and went to the kitchen and made myself a very late dinner. It is one of my absolute favourites but it might not be one of yours. You can tell me in the comments later.
You see the other thing that I've been doing is trying to be less inclined to let obsessive compulsive things get in my way of progress. Nobody has time for that when deadlines are breathing down your neck. This next photo may cause physical harm to those with this infliction.
Yes, I have deliberately done this to you and myself so that we have to deal with it. Yes, I did intentionally cut my gorgeous golden brown toasted sandwich like that and the bite out of the cheese? That was me too!
Notice that the symmetry of this image is just a little bit horribly out of sorts and the margins are all uneven? That bottom isn't even thick enough to pretend it's a polaroid.
I'm a real bitch when I'm hangry aren't I? You can't unsee this image. That's me in the bottom enjoying my weirdly cut sandwich. It was fucking delectable. I would say on all accounts, I've made some progress on these things indeed. What you reckon?
