I knew this day would eventually come .... the day my friend said she wanted to go and buy another wooden duck for her fireplace. It took her ages to choose the first one, so I wasn't really looking forward to it. Anyway, I did what any good friend would do in this situation, I feigned excitement and I asked the shop owner if he'd got a chair to sit on while I waited.
We returned to the same shop, so I was hoping she would be quicker this time as she must know all the ducks individually by now. To my dismay they'd got even more ducks in stock ...
Well, I was pleasantly surprised that she was pretty quick in choosing one. A duck on a snow board .... who could resist?! However, my friend did have a slight wobble as we edged nearer to the till to pay for it. Apparently, the duck had a slight flaw in it. The wood was slightly split, but you could hardly see it (that's why it was cheaper than the other ducks).
I stood there wondering whether she'd still buy it or not. I became envious of the duck having a drink (above) because at this point I needed a drink as well. I nervously asked her what was her decision? Buy the duck or not? Unfortunately, my friend gets her words mixed up. She said she would still buy the duck in its 'marital state'. What?? What??
I quickly realised she meant 'present state'. She then proceeded to pay for her little lame duck. THANK GOD!! I then popped into the nearest Antique Shop to see if they purchased antique humans, as I had an antique friend for sale!!
