You can never quite predict the weather here. I set off while the sun was shining, fully aware that rain was promised for later. That is classic British weather for you, changing its mood in the space of a single walk.

The walk started with bright blue skies overhead. I passed the local pond where the sun was beating down, leaving plane vapour trails (or chemtrails, whatever you believe in) streaking right across the sky.

The reflections on the pond looked great in the afternoon light. Summer is trying to stick around, but you can already feel the seasons changing.

Up close, the signs of autumn are everywhere. Dried sycamore seeds were hanging from the branches, waiting for a breeze to knock them down. They remind me of my childhood when we used to throw them up in the air playing helicopters until they twirled down to the ground.

Further along the lane, bright red berries were clustering on the hedges, standing out against the green leaves. People will be looking for these soon to make Christmas wreaths, including me.

Even with cooler days on the way, plenty of flowers are still going strong. Deep pink fuchsia buds were hanging heavy from a bush by the path.

Tucked away in the greenery, a stem of pink foxgloves had caught a few rain droplets on its petals.

Little patches of pink cyclamen were also blooming close to the ground, surrounded by bright green leaves.

The route opened up out towards the fields, where green hills stretched beneath a grey sky. A single farm trailer sat parked up in the field. As I kept walking, the rain finally caught up with me.

The downpour did not last forever though, and as the grey clouds began to clear, the sun peeked back out over the damp roads.

The puddles on the wet road created some nice reflections, mirroring the yellowing autumn leaves.

Further down the lane, another large puddle caught the tall pine trees and passing clouds.

Down on the ground, wet sycamore leaves covered the muddy path, turning from green to gold as autumn takes over.

Even a single bright red berry resting on a soggy brown leaf made a nice simple detail to end the stroll on. I love the veins in the leaves.

It was a proper British walk, starting with sunshine, continuing through rain, and ending with damp countryside reflections until the sun reappeared.
