I just made a batch of this snacking treat. It is handy to have for munching as you gather together with family and friends. It is also nice to enjoy by yourself, so give it a go. For those of us in the U.S. it is common and known as 'chex mix'. My recipe has evolved based on personal preference.
Overview: This is a mixture of cereal, nuts, bagel crisps, and pretzels. These ingredients are coated with a slurry of melted butter, seasoned salt, and worcestershire sauce. After the dry ingredients are mixed well with the butter sauce, it is baked at 250 degrees fahrenheit (120 Celsius) for an hour -stirring every 15 minutes. When done, cool. Store in an air-tight container.
My variations: I use corn chex, rice chex, and multi-grain cherrios as my cereal options. I use peanuts, cashews, and smoked almonds for my nuts. I break the bagel crisps into smaller pieces. I also add garlic salt and just a touch of bbq sauce to my butter mixture.
There are no rules in my kitchen! I estimate quantity except for the butter (I use 1/2 pound) for a large batch. You can't go wrong with the creation of your mix.
Here is today's beauty.
