Hi there. In this Pokemon TCG post, I do a Beedrill ex deck profile.
Beedrill is not a strong Pokemon in general but it kind of recognizable mostly from the early Pokemon anime episodes. Ash and friends would sometimes run away frantically from a swarm of Beedrill.
Note: This post is long.
Beedrill ex is a new Stage 2 Grass attacker from the recent Chaos Rising set. It has 310 HP, a one retreat cost, Fire weakness and a single attack.
Rumbling Bees costs 1 Grass Energy for the attack. Deal 110 damage for each Beedrill or Beedrill ex you have in play. A minimum of 110 damage to a maximum of 440 damage if you have 4 Beedrill in play.
Beedrill ex on its own is pretty good. The supporting cards make the Beedrill ex deck better.
Forest of Vitality
Forest of Vitality is a powerful Stadium that provides a big boost to Grass evolution decks. Go from Weedle to Beedrill ex in one turn provided that you have the cards and it is past turn one. In theory and in practice you can have some pretty powerful explosive turns. Go from nothing to a swarm of 2 or 3 Beedrill ex.
Dunsparce & Dudunsparce Draw Engine
Dunsparce & Dudunsparce is the draw engine of choice here. Run Away Draw lets you draw 3 cards then you run away the Dudunsparce and attached cards back to the deck. Drawing 3 cards is big as you have a greater chance of finding the Beedrill ex pieces you need.
Bug Catching Set
Bug Catching Set is a good Item card for Grass decks. You see the top 7 cards of your deck and reveal up to 2 Grass Pokemon and Basic Grass Energy and put the 2 cards into your hand. There are no guarantees with Bug Catching Set though. Some players don't like this card due to its random element.
Sacred Ash
Sacred Ash is a good Pokemon recovery card. You put up to 5 Pokemon from your discard pile and put them into your deck. A Knocked Out Beedrill ex is equivalent to putting the Beedrill ex, Kakuna and Weedle in the discard pile. Sacred Ash puts back the pieces you want back to the deck.
Here are some sample decklists for people to copy or get ideas from.
Rank 229 out of 2752 Players - Beedrill ex with Hyper Aroma ACE SPEC at NAIC
This list is the highest placing Beedrill ex list from the recent North American International Championships (NAIC) large tournament in June 2026. Most decks run Unfair Stamp as their ACE SPEC but this one uses Hyper Aroma. Hyper Aroma is just not used much as an ACE SPEC card but I guess it makes sense here.
Rank 325 out of 2752 Beedrill ex NAIC with Secret Box
This Beedrill ex list is a bit different. Notice that there are no Bug Catching Sets here. Instead, there are 2 Lucky Helmets and one Air Balloon. The ACE SPEC here is Secret Box for finding the Stadium, one Supporter, one Item card and one Tool card.
An interesting build here with Secret Box and tools and no Bug Catching Set.
Rank 4 out of 169 Players, Seniors Division (Age 11 to 14) at Special Event Turin, Italy
This is the Beedrill ex list I have been playing with for the last 3 or 4 days. It looks like a boring list with the Unfair Stamp, Bug Catching Set, common Supporters and one Meowth ex. I have found the deck to function okay. Maybe I have gotten lucky, not sure.
The deck gameplan is simple. Get as many Beedrill ex in play as possible and attack. Use Boss's Orders when needed to target weak Pokemon.
Try to have one Dudunsparce in play just in case your hand gets disrupted. There is a lot of Unfair Stamp going around and a few Special Red Cards for the late game.
With this one, I was against Hop's Trevenant. I lost the first match against this opponent but managed to win the rematch (in ranked) after. I don't know when exactly I took this screenshot.
I think my next turn was using Boss's Orders to knockout the 210 HP Fezandipiti ex. I had two Beedrill ex in play, so the Beedrill ex attack would deal 220 damage. Then I would be at 2 Prize cards left versus his 3.
In this screenshot, I was up against a Dragapult ex player. I don't think this Dragapult ex player was good. Maybe unlucky also.
With my board state, I have 3 Beedrill ex ready to deal 330 damage to a 320 HP Dragapult ex, one Boss's Orders in hand and draw power. At this point, I was highly favoured to win here. When Beedrill ex gets going, it is hard to stop it. Getting lucky helps too.
A one energy attack that can do either 110, 220, 330 or even 440 damage on Beedrill ex is too good to ignore. Most Support Pokemon have 210 HP or less such as Meowth ex, Latias ex, Teal Mask Ogerpon ex, Fezandipiti ex. Dealing 220 damage is good for Beedrill to pick up these type of Pokemon ex.
Hitting for 330 damage from the Beedrill ex is very good. This number is key against 320 HP Dragapult ex and sometimes 320HP Blaziken ex.
Dudunsparce is a good draw engine that lets you see more cards and pieces for evolving to Beedrill ex.
In the early game, Lillie's Determination is good if you have not taken a Prize card yet. In some rare cases, you may have to give up a Pokemon to get better overall setup in the next turn. This deck is very capable of getting some explosive setup turns with Forest of Vitality, Dudunsparce and even Fezandipiti ex.
Grass is a good typing in the standard metagame right now. N's Zoroark ex is weak to Grass and Cynthia's Garchomp ex decks are not good against Grass. Cynthia's Garchomp has been pushed out of the metagame due to Grass being a good alternative type.
There are noticeable flaws in the deck and Beedrill ex itself.
It may not be easy sometimes to get many Beedrill ex in play. One Beedrill ex in your Prize cards is a little annoying. Getting two or more Beedrill ex prized is really bad. Prized Beedrill ex means limited firepower from the Beedrill.
Do watch out for some Pokemon with resistance to Grass. Pokemon with Grass resistance take 30 less damage from Grass attacks. Do be mindful of the math.
As Beedrill decks are using Dudunsparce as the draw engine of choice, do watch out for Team Rocket's Watchtower. The Watchtower Stadium negates the effects of the abilities of Colourless Pokemon like Dudunsparce and Meowth ex.
Beedrill does not really not much energy for its attack and in deck. With this in mind, getting the Grass energy ready for the attack may not come easy. The gameplan with Beedrill is simple but do keep track of resources.
As Beedrill is a Grass type, watch out for Fire attackers. They are not common but there are a few Blaziken ex and Ceruledge ex that are played.
Beedrill is the main attacker in the deck. It can get walled out hard by stuff like Crustle. Crustle wall decks is an auto-loss matchup.
In June 2026, Beedrill ex decks are fairly new. It is unknown where the ceiling of this deck is. Right now, Beedrill ex is not a top 10 deck or a tournament contender. It has some decent firepower and can get setup fast.
Maybe in a future format without Crustle, Hydrapple ex, Teal Mask Ogerpon ex and Dragapult ex, Beedrill ex decks can be a top 10 deck and be the go-to Grass deck.
For now, Beedrill ex is a good beginner/intermediate level beatstick style deck.
Thank you for reading.
