So this is a bit embarrassing, but I have fallen back in love with Pokemon cards.
I had a few as a kid. Nothing huge, but I did have a Charizard. That card felt like treasure. Somewhere along the way life happened and the cards got packed away, and I honestly did not think about them for years.
Then my daughter got into it. Watching her open packs and light up over the artwork pulled something right back out of me, and before I knew it I was hooked all over again.
My main goal is to collect a full set of the original Pokemon, not the original cards im not loaded, but all the orignal across whatever sets. That is the dream. I will be honest though, a lot of the newer ones I find hard to love. There are a few gems in there, but most of them just do not grab me the way the originals do.
What has completely won me over is the full art cards. Some of them are seriously cool, little pieces of art in their own right, and I could sit and look at them all day.
So I thought I would start sharing my wish list here, one card at a time, as I hunt them down.
First up: Machoke 177/165.
The English version is sitting at around $22, and the Japanese is about $9, which is a bit of a gap to sit and think about.
What I really love about this one is the domestic scene. It is a family home, and there is Machoke, the big strong man himself, helping out with the chores. There is just something really cute about that. This absolute powerhouse of a Pokemon rolling his sleeves up to lend a hand around the house.
I have not seen it in person yet, so I am keen to find out whether the illustration is crisper up close, or whether that softer look is just the style. Half the fun is not knowing until you are actually holding it.
And keep an eye on the corner, there is a little Meowth sneaking in, and the whole house is cut away so you can see right inside. Little details like that are exactly why I have fallen for these cards.
So the hunt is on. Fingers crossed I track one down. If you happen to spot one, you know where to find me.
