Palace of Fine Arts. National Museum of Art. Cuban Art Building. Either way it is named identifies the same thing: the temple of Cuban art.

When construction of this monolithic building began, back in the fifties of the last century, between Zulieta streets and Avenida de Belgium, formerly Monserrate in Old Havana, there was a lot of interest at the time due to the visual contrast between its rationalist style—one could say, pure cubism—and the classic surroundings of colonial architecture.

In the nineties of the last century, the building was subject to repair and remodernization of its exterior structure, to which domed glass was added that continually reflects the traffic of cars and pedestrians, in addition to the image of the buildings, thereby integrating the civil property into the city environment. It was reopened to the public in the year 2921.

The stairs were also added to the right wing, which protrude from the walls with transparent glass, where the movement of visitors can be seen from the street, and they can observe the movement of the city from inside the building. But if something identifies the exterior structure of the Fine Arts building, it is the modern sculpture located almost at the entrance of the wide glass door, made by the teacher Rita Longa.

On the left side there are also other sculptural groups installed, but with metal structures that demonstrate the personal style of the sculptor, representative of modernism in the plastic arts in Cuba.

The main work is carved directly on marble and is an aquatic joy.

The building has a rectangular floor plan. ..with three levels originally connected by ramps at the back and now also by stairs on the right side.

In the.building.sw Cuban art that has permanent rooms and spaces for temporary exhibitions. The best of the Cuban aetw is preserved, from the first expressions of the different ways of making art on the island to the most current and worthy of being kept as a memory of the national culture.

For me, this building with a concrete and solid structure is one of the most important places in the entire country, for the cultural wealth that it treasures, protects and preserves inside its rooms, where generations and generations of spectators and scholars can drink from the inexhaustible source of Cuban culture.

This temple of Cuban visual arts is located in a strategic area with a lot of history. Just by visiting the Museum of the Revolution, the former Presidential Palace, we are already close to that privilege.

Currently the dw.Bellas Artes museum is also one of the tourist destinations, both national and foreign, not only for its permanent collection but also for its modern architectural structure.
