As I have always been practicing, to spend half a page describing the day and the environment, and why, that's exactly what led us to explore new eateries aren't we? To me, it's an important part of introducing a restaurant together with the story of how I got there.
It was a gloomy Sunday where I was stuck home doing chores. By the time we're supposed to go dinner, home minister suggest we go for Japanese food. As you know I WAS a huge Sushi King fan until they decided to remove their Piri-Piri Karaage. I did sent an email express my concern as a diehard can, but gotten a rather rude reply from their representatives. So, that leave me no choice but to not visit Sushi King ever again.
Therefore, I scroll through Google maps for Japanese restaurant near me, and this blib up first on my suggestion list. Sushi? Mastro? We parked the car at the nearby mall and walked over.
Don't use your instinct, because the building is a service apartment, you'll be thinking it's a residential building, the restaurant is secretly hiding at first floor. I love the way they lit up the staircase properly for the customers.
It's a sushi shop, and I think this is the type of boutique style sushi shop, the menu is very particular on certain item and one doesn't get fancy fusion stuff. The smell of the restaurant does NOT smell like kitchen or BBQ, but it's a light disinfectant smell. I am very pleased with this kind of ambient and confident with their sanitary.
Home minister got herself a plate of smoked tuna roll, and I got myself a roll of softshell crab Spyder roll. I didn't take the smoked tuna, but home minister is very happy with it. She approved the freshness. My Spyder roll is very crunchy as well.
On top of that, we also ordered 2 bowl of garlic rice. A lot of garlic, taste very fragrant. I don't think it's a fair match with Sushi Zanmai nor Rakuzen garlic fried rice, because those two served a lot of fusion food, I believe they know how to fried a garlic rice more "local" to suit the local taste buds.
Son got a piece of inari and tamago maki but that's all. Overall experience is pretty darn good, except the restaurant is quite small. If you don't feel too comfortable in such a packed restaurant, they also have an open balcony so you can fetch some fresh air.
