This was a great little photo shoot, which I attended a couple of years back. It was set up by another local photographer, who had managed to meet some World War 2 reenactors (people who dress up in historically accurate uniforms for fun). He also manage to persuade the owners of the Bomber Command Memorial Centre to allow us to shoot on site, which was a fantastic privilege.
Bomber Command were the part of the RAF which was focused on bombing runs in Europe for tactical and strategic reasons. This included planes such as the Lancaster and the Halifax. After they had attempted their missions, they had to fly home, and for the the Aircraft who were based in Lincolnshire, the pilots actually used Lincoln Cathedral as a wayfinder, to help them get home.
As a nod to this little fact, I made an effort to include Lincoln Cathedral in these portraits, and you can see it in the background of these shots overlooking the city below. And as luck would have it, we were treated to a spectacular sunset while we were shooting, which was perfect for the final images.
