Mum cooked lunch today and she made her famous and super delicious clear broth soup. She also cooked some fried omelette with sweet onions and a steamed whole fried fish.

The soup is a vegetable and seafood soup with some pork meatballs. The vegetables that were added were carrots, white cabbage and straw mushrooms. For the seafood, we used fish maw, and abalone. The seasoning is simply with salt to taste as all these ingredients give the soup a natural sweetness and its packed full of refreshing notes to each spoonful. We don't have this dish often. Normally only once a year during Chinese New Year time. So this was a real treat!

The fried omelette was simply saut茅ed onions cooked until soften then beaten eggs added and seasoned with salt cooked till golden brown. Simple and delicious.

The fried fish was a steamed whole golden pomfret given by a friend of mine. I love golden pomfret as its quite inexpensive and an oily type of fish like Japanese mackerel or salmon.

The fish is cleaned thoroughly and then seasoned with salt and steamed. The sauce is cooked seperate and its loads of finely diced ginger and garlic that's saut茅ed in oil. After cooking the mixture until fragrant, she adds some fermented bean paste and also soy sauce which gives it a real depth of flavor. While this oil-type of sauce is hot, its poured onto the fish and the aroma that wafts up is so fragrant that will really whet anyone's appetite.
