Yesterday, while browsing Campfire, I came across a post that caught my attention. It was a simple update from @splintertrends, but it actually inspired the topic of my blog post today.
The post said:
"I just bought 3 trees in HiveGrove!"
"All future rewards will go toward increasing my Hive Power."
I was happy to see another player adopting the same strategy I've been following recently. In fact, I replied that it was a smart move because I've been doing the same thing! ๐
For those who haven't tried HiveGrove yet, Campfire is the social media side of the game. Players can share almost anything, even topics unrelated to HiveGrove. However, most conversations revolve around the game, personal experiences, and strategies for growing their virtual groves.
What Makes HiveGrove Different?
One thing that makes HiveGrove interesting to me is its reward system.
Unlike most blockchain games that reward players with their own tokens, HiveGrove uses HIVE as its in-game currency. You purchase trees and land using HIVE, and you also earn HIVE through watering your trees.
Even better, you can choose whether to receive your rewards as liquid HIVE or have them automatically powered up into Hive Power (HP).
Basically, your trees become income-generating assets within the game.
Under the current mechanics, watering doesn't cost anything, and each tree can generate rewards regularly as long as you continue watering it. Of course, this arrangement could change as the game continues developing.
Why Invest in Trees Instead of Hive Power?
This is where things become interesting!
We all know that staking HIVE and actively curating content can generate returns. Based on the information displayed on PeakD, the combination of staking and curation rewards can reach roughly 15% annually, although actual returns vary.
However, HiveGrove offers a different opportunity with potentially much higher reward rates.
Here's a breakdown of the current tree prices and their estimated earnings at the base growth stage:
These estimates assume one watering daily, including the expected bonus chances. They're illustrative yields rather than guaranteed returns.
What's amazing is that the trees can also grow into higher stages, increasing their reward potential over time!
Building a Grove With 185 HIVE
Let's say you want to maximize your grove by purchasing 10 trees. Here's a sample investment breakdown:
That's 185 HIVE for the trees and land, excluding any additional fee for replacing an existing starter tree.
Based on the base-stage rewards alone, this grove could generate approximately 307.26 HIVE annually with consistent daily watering.
However, factoring in potential growth-stage multipliers, my more optimistic first-year projection is around 505.09 HP. That's almost 2.7 times the initial HIVE outlay in accumulated rewards!
Of course, this higher figure is only a projection. Actual earnings depend on tree growth, watering consistency, bonus rewards, and whether the current game mechanics remain sustainable.
My Strategy for Growing Hive Power
Ever since I realized this potential at the beginning of the month, I've changed my HiveGrove reward settings to Stake (Power Up).
For me, this makes more sense than collecting liquid HIVE because my goal is to increase my stake in the Hive blockchain.
The additional Hive Power can strengthen my curation activities, generate more rewards, and help me support other content creators.
What excites me most is that this strategy isn't exclusive to veteran Hive users. Even beginners with relatively small holdings can participate and gradually accumulate Hive Power.
I also appreciate that HiveGrove makes the process enjoyable. Instead of simply watching my staking balance increase, I'm growing trees, interacting with fellow players, and participating in a community.
Of course, the unusually high projected returns also come with risks. The rewards depend on the game's continued operation and available funding, so I'm treating this as an experiment rather than a guaranteed investment.
Overall, I'm excited about HiveGrove because it demonstrates another creative way to expand the use cases of our blockchain.
If this strategy fits your Hive journey, feel free to explore the game, review its mechanics, and decide whether planting a few trees makes sense for you.

Disclaimer: Just to be clear, this post is not financial advice, and I'm not affiliated with the HiveGrove project or its development team in any way. I'm simply a player who enjoys the game and wants to share my personal experience, observations, and thoughts about its earning potential. The figures I've shared are based on the current game mechanics and my own calculations, so actual rewards may vary, and future changes could affect the returns. As always, I encourage everyone to do their own research, understand the risks, and make decisions based on what works best for them. I'm just sharing what I've learned along my Hive journey, and hopefully, some of you will find it useful.
