The use of landang seemed to originate from our forefathers. Before it gets so common and ideal for binignit, some villagers long ago depends on it for sustenance during a period of drought and also during the World War II, as stated by our late grandmother.
Landang product derives from the trunk's inner layer of a buri tree. Hence, once the buri tree reach its peak and brings out flowers and fruits, that's the right time to cut it down as it dies eventually.
The entire process of landang production is a long hours of work, although there are now alterations made. From sundrying the chopped wood from the trunk and crushing it to make it into powder and then soak it in the basin of water. Place it under the heat of the sun and wait for it until the landang becomes thick and partly solid as it's coagulated. Then we have it ready for binignit.
