Hey everyone, as the days get shorter and nights longer, one would think the honey flow would dry up, alas no that has not happened.
Great "problem" to have, but what is going on?? As a result of all the late rain this year many flowers and weeds, have bloomed very late which has thankfully resulted in a late harvest incredible honey flow.
So why weeds Craig?? Depending on how you view "blackjacks' are technically weeds. We however don't see them as such. They make the most incredibly tasting honey and this time around I argue our best yet?
The few above pictures are the honey frames between 1.5 and 2.5 kgs before extracting the honey. Below the extracted honey frames with only residual honey left.
What is happening here? As a result of extraordinary honey flow the bees ran out of space in their hives to store honey. No problem they made new storage combs between the frames and the lid. Our bad we should have either harvested sooner or added more supers. Bee-keeping is hard laboursome work and with around 30 odd hives currently we don't always get to them all.
