Decided to go for a #wednesdaywalk back in time today, went back to a stroll I took around downtown Louisville on the last day of March 2020. A little over a week before that the governor had imposed a lockdown and I wanted to see what it looked like with all the suburbanites working from home.
Our 'lockdown' was largely in name only but at least at first everything shut down and downtown was no exception. I'd lived downtown for a while years ago and was used to seeing downtown deserted, at least on the weekends but seeing everything closed was a bit surreal.
Well, it's never completely deserted. That's a hard life even in the best of times, I feel sorry for the poor bastards that have to rough it during all this.
" . . . until the threat of this virus is more under control." It'd be funny, if only it were funny. Kinda amazing how rapidly we can go from 'Oh shit' to 'Fuck it.'
A little less than two months after I took these shots the protests here broke out and all these places spent much of the rest of the year boarded up.
Are we there yet? Locals long ago abandoned downtown to the tourists and the cubicle crowd, with everyone staying healthy at home it was just a bit of crumbling concrete shy of apocalyptic.
Then again Louisville has always been a bit odd.
Wait a minute, wasn't it 5G that caused this whole mess in the first place? You'd think they wouldn't be advertising it.
All the hand wringing over the damage done on the first few nights of protesting here was pretty rich. Just about everything had been closed and emptied out for months, it just gave the downtown businesses a bailout on the insurance companies' dime. Does that count as corporate welfare?
From the way things are looking in Germany and Austria right now we should have another wave of covid to deal with before long. Should be a good excuse to go shoot up downtown again.
Aside from not being able to go to bars, restaurants, or the office the 'lockdown' didn't really change much. What was the lockdown like where you were?
