1920 Pilgrim Tercentenary Half Dollar

This is going to be the first in a series of some commemorative coins I will be sharing over the course of the next week or so. For the first in the series we will say hello to the 1920 Pilgrim Tercentenary Half Dollar. It was minted to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the landing of the pilgrims at Plymouth Massachusetts in what would become the United States of America.

These were produced by the Philadelphia mint. The approximate mintage quantity was just over 152,000 for 1920 and just over 20,000 for 1921 according to Numista.

It is 90% silver which makes it really sweet, and I found this one in really great condition. I am thinking at least AU. What do you think?

OBVERSE

The obverse of the coin displays what is supposed to be William Bradford, the governor of Plymouth Colony, holding a bible. Over his shoulder is "IN GOD WE TRUST". Around the top edge of the coin is "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA". Circling around the bottom edge of the coin is the word "PILGRIM" followed by "HALF DOLLAR".

REVERSE

The reverse shows the Mayflower sailing across the sea. The words "PILGRIM" "TERCENTENARY" "CELEBRATION" circle from left to right across the top of the coin. The dates "1620-1920" marking the three hundred years since the landing of the pilgrims are at the bottom.
